Aquarius Horoscope 2006

Year Ahead

Aquarius January 19 - February 18

Mars in Taurus 4th house and Fixed cross 1, 4, 7, 10

Since July 2005 and until February 2006 Mars will have spent six months in the fourth house of home. Renovations, repairs and helping out family members are some of those themes during this time. The 4th house is our home, family and our roots. It represents our need for security in terms other than money—what is it you need in order to feel safe? The people of your home are those with whom you share an emotional bond, where your love is as close to unconditional as we can get. On a mundane level, this can be a period of renovations, moving or big shifts and changes within family. Children may leave the nest or move back in. This is the area of life where we look after those we consider family. Now it is time to stand on your own two feet and make practical choices in order to move forward in life. At this time, you may find yourself contemplating your view of yourself as opposed to how you think others see you—perhaps deep conversations with a counselor about what makes us tick. At the minimal, this is the time when you spend more time in family type activities than normal, maybe even the time you think of starting one.

Neptune has been in Aquarius so long that you have become rather accustomed to the dissolving energy that is linked to the collective dreams and the needs of the masses. Neptune travels through 17-20°Aquarius this year, so those with birthdays around February 7-10 will feel the influence of this planet of illusions, inspiration and other worldliness—so if you catch yourself daydreaming or needing extra downtime you can chalk it down to Neptune. Saturn has been opposite your Sun since mid-2005; Saturn is the planet of REALITY. The place opposite of us houses OTHERS. This typically means that we have some relating issues to handle. These houses collectively are linked to the cornerstone issues in our lives; so much of this year is spent handling the necessary facets of life—home, family, relationships and work. The key out at times is to trust those intuitive hunches rather than rely solely on rational thought.

New Venus in the 12th house

This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives. This one is personal for people who have planets at 1°Aquarius, 23-24°Capricorn and 16°. Your Sun is at 1°Aquarius if you were born the day after the Sun moved into Aquarius. Your Sun is at 23-24°Capricorn if you were born January 12-14 and at 16°Capricorn if you were born January 7.

During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.

Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me—a little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.

The 12th house is a private and intimately personal area of life. This is the house where our baggage from the past has relatively free reign. This is where we face or ignore our fears, become intimately acquainted with our insecurities and often fail to recognize our innate strengths. This astrological area represents isolation, solace and respite from the hectic pace of our lives. The subconscious mind and our dream world belong here, and when the cycles activate this area of our lives we need to address some of these issues. It is also the segment in the annual cycle that defines the process of ending a period so we can launch a new year starting with our birthday about a month away. The energy of Taurus is practical, no nonsense and filled with strength. The normal month long cycle does not apply this year nor next; now you need to do deeper level work on the issues described by the 12th segment of the chart, as listed or illustrated in this paragraph. Might as well get out the notebook in order to record your dreams, the next step, of course, is to get a dream dictionary or a book of symbols. Our collective set of symbols varies little between cultures, but the essence of symbols remains about the same. When we dream of cooking, we are creating sustenance, and a nurturing atmosphere. When we dream of the Ocean, it is to do with emotions. Learn about your own nature and coping mechanisms by paying attention to your dreams.

We outgrow things in our life, but letting go is easy to say but harder to do. This is an extended period of soul searching and perhaps a quest for spiritual truths. Faith is built up during times like these. This is the most private area of our lives, so there is little talk about the things that are on your mind. This period is likely about what changes you desire in your life. Count your blessings and don't think in terms of tossing aside—the inherent value is what we should seek. Often it only seems that we don't deserve or haven't earned, the reality may be quite different. More about Venus in the annual write-up.

North Node in 3-9 shifts to 2-8

The North Node has been in your solar third house since the end of 2004. For a year and a half, you may have extra dealings with siblings, cousins, neighbours, and the people you chat with on a daily basis. The issues are communication, travel, transportation, gathering knowledge and daily schedules. There is a strong need to find common ground, and learn to accept each other through open communication—no excuses. As this is the knowledge gathering section of our lives — "Be curious always! For knowledge will not acquire you: you must acquire it." - Sudie Back. Perhaps you desire to learn something new. Before we can start anything, we do need to analyze it, research the pros and cons and then make an informed decision. This is a good time to mend any broken or strained relationships with sisters, brothers or similar individuals, who used to be part of your daily life.

Mid-2006 the axis shifts into the financial houses. March can bring insights into what issues you will be dealing with until the end of 2007. The issues are about our money and possessions as well as our ability to look after others and ourselves. On an issue level, we have to tend to our perceived value on both the material and emotional level. During this year you are likely to need to learn how to balance your budget and be less able to rely on assistance from others.

Mercury Rx in the earth or substance houses

The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation—the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?

The Mercury cycles take place in the houses linked to substance in your solar chart. We are talking money, your capacity to support and sustain yourself and those who depend on you. It's 'roll up your sleeves', and do the work kind of year. In March, Mercury takes a tour of your money house, which also encompasses concepts of possessions, what you value and a priceless commodity called time. During July, pay attention to where you store or leave those easy to lose items such as the wallet, keys, cell phones, etc. Read those financial statements with care, even automated banking isn't foolproof. This might be the month to avoid making any major purchases—you might end of with a 'lemon'. If it has value, keep it safe. Now might also be a good time to trim things off your agenda; doing too many things can wreak havoc with productivity as well as your own sense of well-being.

In July-August, Mercury visits your solar house associated with work, daily routines and people in your work life. This can be a time of repeat performances, redoing tasks, fixing things and polishing off projects. Your vitality may not be as high now, so pay particular attention to diet and healthy living. The affairs of someone you work with may become more of your business—remember to keep all communications clear. Words are difficult to retract.

In the course of October-November, the emphasis is on the career front—your status and reputation is under scrutiny. During this time dealings with the boss and other authority type figures and institutions can prove challenging. You may need to justify your actions and choices, while redoing any hastily performed projects and tasks. During this time, you might make new choices about how you eke out a living.
