Cancer Horoscope 2006

Year Ahead

Cancer June 21-July 22

Mars in Taurus 11th house and Fixed cross 2, 5, 8, 11

You have had ample time since July 2005 to contemplate what you would like your future to be and what you are prepared to do in order to make your dreams reality. As I mentioned in the annual column this is a 'gold rush' year. For you the astrological houses are linked to money and resources. The cliché is "make hay while the Sun shines." You don't want to be gambling, rather take calculated risks. It is easier for you to hold onto what you have and to learn to make do with less so that you build your nest egg.

New Venus in the 7th house

This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives.

During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.

Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me— little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.

For you this cycle is about relating; how you interact with others and whether those relationships are mutually inclusive. It's always harder to communicate with people who have a different set of values, but in the process, we learn much about ourselves as well. Others reflect our lives back to us providing a mirror in which we see our reflection. Do you like what you see? Remember that we can only ever change ourselves, no matter how much energy we expend in trying to change others. During this time you are also more likely to meet people who reflect the changed you. If you personal relationships have become unsupportive, you may find yourself questioning the viability of that relationship. Typically, this means improve rather than discard. Honest and open discussions are necessary. More about Venus in the annual write-up.

North Node in 10-4 shifts to 9-3

The Nodes have occupied the axis of career vs. home since December 2004. This axis is always a balancing act. You may be needed at home more than before and may need to 'neglect' that a little while you work toward new goals. Your job may have changed and you have solid goals you now wish to achieve in order to have security. Family members can be supportive during this time, but you need to make a concerted effort to spend quality time with them, as quantity is typically not an option during these times. This might also coincide with a time when you move away from your childhood home for the first time.

Mid-year this axis shifts into the house of travel and higher education and daily schedules and routines. This is a 1.5-year period, during which you may begin new studies, take many courses and perhaps travel more. Learning more about philosophy, religion and questioning some of your convictions might be few of the other themes. This time is about applying the skills you have acquired to do something in the big world out there. No learning or acquisition of skills is ever a waste of time—life skills accumulate over time we are not born with a fully developed set of them.

Mercury Rx in the houses of life

The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation—the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?

The so-called houses of life for Solar Cancer or Cancer rising are the 1st house of self and physical body, 5th house of romance, creativity and children and the 9th house of higher learning, travel and philosophy. These houses collectively are to do with creation and recreation. Our physical appearance changes over time, some of the changes we implement ourselves and others are due to time and our environment. Our attitude toward romance, children and our creative side also goes through adjustment as we keep on recreating our attitude. In the 9th our views, opinions and convictions go through big changes of time, looking back we seldom even resonate with who we were.

February 8 - April 12: The affairs and issues of the 9th house become emphasized. This is the house of higher knowledge, foreign travel and our views on life. This house represents the area of our lives where we philosophize about life and life's mysteries. Religion is the domain of this house; the intent is to learn about comparative religion in order to grow our own convictions and ideas. This is the house where expand our horizons venture out there to learn something new about the part of life that does not exist in the familiar neighbourhood of our daily existence. In this house, we question our existence and seek knowledge. This is not faith for the sake of faith, or because that is what the doctrine states; this is where we develop our belief system, it is the 12th house and the sign of Pisces that represents surrender. Politics are firmly held opinions thus belong to this area of our lives. This is where we make our initial connection with the world at large; the stage where we share that connection is the 10th house. So many inter-weaving cycles, and now is the time to learn to connect some of those dots, remove those proverbial ‘blinders' and review and revise our views. For the heads up refer to the Mercury column for 2006.

July-August: It is about you, your attitude and physical body now as the 1st house and your Sun are influenced. The Sun, astrologically speaking, defines your life force, ego, energy, who you are becoming and defines the process of becoming self-aware in the course of this lifetime. It is time to get that physical body in shape, put yourself first for a change and revamp your attitude and appearance. This is an excellent time to start a healthier regimen. You know exercise, diet and relaxation time. A healthier you becomes a more vibrant you.

In the course of October-November, the affairs of the 5th astrological house come into focus. This place in the chart houses our children, whose affairs can become of concern for you, both positive and negative. The duality of life does extend beyond black and white. Your role may be to dole out practical sound advice for them in order to teach them lovingly to handle life's 'ups and downs' in a more matter of fact fashion, rather than simply allow events to control their lives. Creativity lives here as well, it is the off spring of our mind. Whether you have always desired to paint, write or create ‘masterpieces', make a scrap book—now is the time to do something creative that gives you a sense of satisfaction. This is also the area of life where we need and desire to have fun and to PLAY. We need to balance all facets of our lives in order to feel content. This is the time to recreate contentment in your life. More about the Mercury cycle in the annual write up, includes a Rx Calendar.

House of Romance

October-November brings matters of the heart to the forefront—falling in love, getting engaged or married. This could also mark a pregnancy or a birth of a child. The other significant concept assigned to this house in astrology is creative matters. It looks like an inspired time for creating something that makes your heart happy.
