The significant shifts in planetary energy began during the past four months, and we have many more to come. 2007 was a challenging year for many of us. When long cycles reach the final degrees in a sign, we feel a sense of urgency to complete EVERYTHING on our list. This naturally isn't doable, no matter how much we would like to conclude everything. In the last six-seven weeks of 2007, most of us became too busy to attend to everything, and that, which entered our lives since September, was emotional in nature and now we needed to learn practical ways of handling issues. In astrology, there are short cycles and extremely long ones—many are changing now, and the more changes we have in the stars the more changes we will have in our lives. Is it a curse or a blessing, when we are wished: "may you live in interesting times"?
Since September 2007, we have all felt 'stuck' somehow. Our experiences are all unique and different. Some of the potential events and issues, including dealing with family members and housing related issues more. Perhaps we have needed to rely on assistance more than we are accustomed. Organizing a trip, procuring insurance, dealing with an insurance claim or the loss of a family member are some of the issues that figure prominently now. Some of us are luckier, and we have only had to deal with the furnace seizing up on us, the hot water heater that no longer works, the washer and dryer, the fridge—anything that has a motor and deals with water.
Mars was in Cancer from September to the end of the year, and changed direction mid-November. For Cancer these many weeks were extremely personal. You may have been battling for your own rights and pondering your deepest desires. Now that Mars has returned to the sign of Gemini on New Year's Eve, you are probably dealing some of your fears and doubts. This isn't an easy time for Cancer; if it hasn't been all that personal for you, then your family members have been experiencing more than their 'fair' share of issues.
You know that you have tons of things on hold but for now, you are dealing with other things. Some typical comments include continuous distractions, needing to drop everything you do to respond to the needs of another. Perhaps you have frequent requests such as can you find out for me, can you help me get this done, or perhaps you are looking after a friend or a family member in need of care or maybe you need more care from your loved ones. Chances are you have more on your plate than you can handle comfortably. Remember that from March to May you will be playing serious catch up but with a different mindset than during the latter part of 2007, which has been rather 'stressful' for many of us.
Many of us have made statements such as 'I no longer want to do that or I REFUSE. This energy can be over reactive, meaning that we get upset over little things that aren't worth the effort of losing our control. Until early March, we have the opportunity to find intellectual, rational, logical choices to set on a different course through the maze of life. During January, we need to revisit past ideas, talk to our partner, advisors and/or family members about the most pressing issues and this time with an intellectual mindset not from a place of emotional turmoil.
Similar energy was in play from August 6 to September 28, 2007. The repeats typically take place once every two years; this period is an exception. The feelings we have been having for the past 2-3 months need to be addressed. If something is making you feel unhappy, emotionally alone or alienated, you need to speak up. There is that saying: Doing the same thing 'over and over again' and expecting the same results is insanity. Until March 4, you have the opportunity to revisit those issues and tackle them differently.
Then from March 4 until May 9, you will be in a better position to handle your life and relationships with loved ones differently. Are you doing what you love, and what will you eliminate this year so that you can concentrate on your dearest aspirations?
As the year begins, a new element enters the equation: logic, paper work, seeking professional advice, speaking to a counselor, attorney, adjuster, etc. The first two weeks of the year are intense, it is easier to get into arguments as we 'fight' for what is just and fair. On December 18 when Jupiter moved into Capricorn (Mercury and Sun followed by the 21 st ) we all got a glimpse of what direction we need to take. Granted most of us became aware that it will take time, patience and working toward our goals patiently and methodically.
Pluto of change and transformation enters Capricorn this year. The preview period is January 25-June 13, and November 2008 begins 14-year main feature. For Cancer this influences relationships. The energy of Pluto is INTENSE and the energy of Cancer is Empathetic and Active . You are likely to feel this profound shift. You want commitment from here on out!
Over the past 12 years, you had many changes in your daily environment, at work and potentially with your health. You might have had to work in a setting that was continuously changing, acrimonious and deal with many power struggles. This isn't easy for someone who senses the environment, and does not feel comfortable with the unfamiliar. Our one-on-one relationships are always 'under construction'. We are on our best behaviour for the first year, by year seven we need to learn the art of compromise. Regardless at what year you are within that relationship, now you want to completely own that relationship or let it go.
Life is short and you plan to live it on your terms. Now Pluto of change, elimination, rebirth and 'fate' is shifting gradually into the sign of business, societal norms and ambition, Capricorn (dates above). If we observe, what people are busy doing every year this time we get strong clues as to what the planetary influence is most likely to bring us.
Every year when many planets are in Capricorn (Dec 21-Jan 20), people seem to do a big purge around their homes—in with the new at Christmas and out with the old after Boxing Day. When the planet known for its ability to eliminate, to make redundant moves in Capricorn, purging things and people, who have outlived their usefulness can become a strong theme.
Pluto in Capricorn for Cancer is linked to partners and other people. Everything needs to be addressed pragmatically, within the laws of society and it all takes extra time. The societal norm of course for relationships is marriage. In the case of Pluto, it is further, until death do us part. This influence lasts for 14 years; the adjusting time is 2008-09. Your understanding about how partnerships work will be the one thing that will be altered the most during these years. In the short-term, i.e. this year, pay extra attention to how you express your ideas; our perspective of truth is subjective. If you enter into agreements/contracts do ensure that everything is equitable; you don't want to create a situation where you have little power to implement changes you desire.
Saturn moved into Virgo back in September and lasts until mid-2010. This for you influences your daily environment and activities. Communication is on of our biggest challenges, while it is hard to open up completely you do tend to find the right words most of the time. However, when we stay silent, we are guaranteed that others leap to conclusions about our reasons/motives, etc.
Saturn helps us limit and find a focus for our effort. The upside of this influence is that when all is said and done, you have worked through any relationship issues. Some things flow with incredible ease, you are likely to earn more this year than last year. However, if your expectations are unrealistic, you feel 'let down'. It is all about attitude. Making affirmative decisions can be challenging during the times Saturn moves against the norm; this year that is until May 2 and since December 19, 2007. The repeat is from New Year's Eve 2008-until April 2009. This influence helps you guard against choices that are not in your best interest quite naturally. However, during 2008-10, you will have many unforeseen opportunities, and if you plan for those what if scenarios, you will be in a great position to seize the opportunities. On a personal note, you are likely to worry about your children and people who are like your own children, more than usual. To them you are the elder and the wise one, but you need to offer advice in terms of choices and options, rather than the one course of action.
During 2008, Jupiter of abundance is in Capricorn with Pluto, which emphasizes your desire to eliminate things in your life that inhibit your advancement within partnerships at all levels Jupiter brings expansion into our lives, for Cancer new opportunities (these need to be practical). Because Pluto and Jupiter are dancing in the same sign bulk of the year, the energy is more volatile.
Whatever big plans or choices you made in the summer of 2004, could bring amazing results in September. The reminders are likely to come in May-June; listen to your intuition or get friends to help you remember what was so important to you back then.

This year the Mercury cycle is in the element of air, as in 2001-02. For you, these cycles influence endings and new beginnings. The emotional theme of 2006-07 gives way to handling matters more rationally but the 'playground' is still rather emotional. This approach may not feel particularly comfortable. While it is a year of new ideas and we can have a delightful time playing out those 'what if' and 'why not' scenarios; every decision means surrendering something you think you should continue to hold onto.
This year Mercury is in your own sign for three weeks from July 10-26, but spends 204 days in signs associated with family, shared resources and isolation/subconscious realm. This is wonderful if the mysteries of life fascinate you, not so great if you already know that there are many outstanding issues with family and resources.
Mercury is in Aquarius (Jan 7 - March 14), which for Pisces involves shared resources. Perhaps you spent the last couple of years attempting to procure financial security. In the course of Autumn (2007) and Winter of 2008, you reviewed these matters with intensity. Now you need to implement some of these changes, find information, do your research and get things on track. It is a great year for soliciting help from advisors rather than rely on your own instincts alone. During this time, particularly when Mercury is retrograde (see dates below), beware how you communicate your ideas, thoughts and solutions. Pay special attention to your most intimate relationship, discuss things openly and honestly—create better rapport, which will make you feel more content with life. Keep all financial, insurance, warranty, investment, taxation etc. documents safely filed. You are likely to need them.
The last time we were here was back in 1995 (prior to that 1988, 1982, 1975, 1969). So, 13 years ago, for the first two months of the year, what were you busy pondering in all earnest? What long-term commitments did you make? Do these need some serious review now? There will be shorter rerun about the same time in 2009. However, the ones with this intensity repeat rather seldom.
From May 2 to July 10, Mercury is in Gemini, which for Cancer represents the inner world, the sum total of our desires and fears. This is the time to contemplate issues that are not visible, the motivation within us. It is said that the only thing that prevents us from achieving everything we wish is fear. Both fear of failure and fear of success are very real to people. While this is the time we love to retreat, spend quality time with our thoughts and prepare for a new personal year, finish off things and clear the deck for the new; it is also the time when the World and people in it beckon us the most. Everyone seems to want a 'piece' of you, you resourcefulness and insights are in high demand.
During May you may be rasher than is your norm, make snap decisions; all of this revolves around your insights and hunches. Think carefully before acting. Water signs—Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces—are rather rational about emotions, we need to understand our feelings through verbalizing them.
July 10-26 will be the ideal time to make long-range commitments, you thinking will be clear and decisive. The hesitancy and uncertainty of late 2007 and early 2008 has become a distant memory.
From Aug 28 - Nov 4, Mercury is in Libra, which for you represents home and family, this is a long time, and the last time we were here was back in 1995 (prior to that 1988, 1982, 1975, 1969). So, 13 years ago, for the first two months of the year, what was keeping you busy? Back then, Pluto was changing as well. Thinking back can bring back incredible revelations about the power of little Mercury. Perhaps each time the family has needed you to make changes in order to accomplish common goals. In hindsight, these couple of months can be rather profound. In the midst of it all, talk to family, discuss possibilities and share your aspirations. Two heads are better than one. Yes, you will need be detached and listen. Offer advice with care; remember what is typically expected of you—rational solutions and the truth.
September is a potentially, wonderful time for working handling family matters For Cancer this could mark starting a family, buying a home and things along those lines. The year holds the potential for extra income, depending on what activities you began in 2006-2007, and the choices you make along the way. It is important to listen to your intuition this year. It is working overtime; perhaps you should pick up a book on dream symbolism (or symbolism) in order to unravel some of those cryptic messages we receive through our dreams.

2008 is a year of endings followed by new beginnings (or vice a versa). The last 4 months of 2007, brought your personal needs and desires to the forefront. You have the opportunity to rework your life and goals. You have a rational and realistic mindset to figure how to get to your desired 'destination'. Relationships are about to change, and you are also more likely to have more encounters with professionals (lawyers, doctors, etc.) Your daily life is likely to be filled to the brim this year, new studies, new routines and perhaps a new neighbourhood.
Our personal year begins on our birthday. Astrologers cast a solar return for each year in order to look at the prominent themes for the year. The write-up here is based on the sun sign and if you happen to know your rising sign, I recommend you read that as well. If you need more information than the columns on the web and your newspaper can provide, I recommend you talk to a professional astrologer. In addition to offering personal consultations, I also have two astrological reports for your personal year.
For the past few years, I have written rather long annual horoscopes for the year, which is once again a theme. Remember I am generalizing because the write-ups are intended for the millions who share your Sun sign, an astrologer can get more specific about your life once your date of birth, time of birth and location of birth are known.
Most of us are interested in learning more about ourselves and yearn to know what the future might hold for us. Many professional astrologers have written computer-generated reports, which offer a wealth of information. Each one I have purchased has been handpicked, because I personally liked it and it gave me additional insights about me. For example, I have two astrological reports for your personal year. The reports are available directly on line or you can email your request and pay with PayPal (the rates are posted on the order page). Two for one offer: one solar return and one transit report OR two solar return reports (nearest birth date will be used) via email directly from Anne for $10. (Note that time of birth is necessary for the solar return report).
The reports are insightful but cannot replace a personal consultation with an astrologer.
