"The best way to predict your future is to create it."—Unknown
2009 is a turbulent year globally, our World is changing, during times like these people tend to simplify and realign with their true essence. I have a writeup about the year on this site, and will post more commentary on my blog at www.annemassey.ca—and, of course, the monthly columns continue.

The adjacent graphic shows the Zodiac wheel for Cancer (Cancer Sun or Cancer Ascendant person). If you know nothing about the workings of astrology, you can see that one sector of the wheel is occupied by energies that move slowly. I have included the years so you can see for how long. The astrological wheel is divided into twelve segments, which symbolically represent areas of our life.
The impact of the astrological cycles encompasses extremes and the full range in between. For Cancer the slowly moving outer planets occupy a space associated with how the environment influences us, i.e. what is happening to us, which is beyond our control, and what we do to assist others in our life, i.e. the impact we have on our environment. The ultimate quest this year might be figuring out what you need to do personally in order to change your present conditions. You may have experienced limitations in your daily environment since September 2007, which are now something you want to gain control over. Perhaps your future plans—you always have those aplenty—have been placed on hold due to circumstances. Over the next 1.5 years, you are likely to work hard toward a new kind of reality.
A subplot that has been in play since 1998—another one of those so-called slow processes or adjustments—is linked to your shared resources, investments and taxes, etc. Sometime during the decade you have needed to compromise and adjust your expectations. For many this might simply be having owed taxes despite paying those throughout the year. Some of your resources may have come in the form of insurance payments, etc. On a more spiritual level these years are often the ones that prompt our quest to understand human nature, particularly our own; what is it that motivates me/others. This year Jupiter joins the 'plot', which might prompt you to study something related to the human nature at length. During the year you may need to learn about investments, taxes and the related regulations—thank goodness we have internet as a resource these days. This year make sure you document your income tax filing properly—not the year to try and hide monies.
Venus: Next I would like you to think about what was important to you in the Spring 0f 2001, 1993 and/or 1985? Back then as this year, Venus was in Aries for almost four months—each time for about four months. This Venus period begins February and eventually concludes early June. Venus is retrograde from March 6 until April 17. Venus unlike Mercury moves backward seldom and thus tends to have long-term significance. Venus periods are about re-evaluation, and in terms of generalized horoscopes we can speculate about what is likely to be under reassessment based on the solar chart shown at the top of this column. Venus will be spending an extra long time in an area associated with work, career and external authority. You might have been dissatisfied at or with work for quite some time, and now this may begin to irritate you to the extent that you want to plan or even implement changes. Venus is associated with what is just and fair—naturally law as well—which might mean having to deal with legal issues and/or 'fighting' for what is just and fair. Our status is also associated with this area, and this might lead to a change in your status. Those changes, in addition to changing jobs, include getting married, divorced, and/or having children. We personally make choices about what we would like and once we are clear the Universe seems to cooperate and help us reach the goals we feel are within our grasp.
This year's Mercury cycle links all of the concepts the other longer cycles depict above—your ideas and concrete action plans. It's easy to feel pressed for time this year, the urge to put all of your ideas into action, rather than find time to weed out those that simply are not viable. Trust your intuition more, we all have those hunches and insights, we simply tend to ignore these. We may choose to act too hastily during the tricky periods which are December 20, 2008-January 20, April 8-May 15, August 7-September 20, December 2, 2009–January 4, 2010. Read more about Mercury in the Aquarius 2009 edition of Astrologically Speaking published later this month. Next year is the roll up your sleeves and be practical, this is a transition year, during which we need to remain extra flexible and accommodating—and not demand too much of ourselves.
The latter part of 2009 and early part of 2010, is likely to bring resolution to any long-standing issues you have had to face in the course of the past 2 years.
These generalized horoscopes address potential issues in broad terms; we have our own horoscope with an array of variables, which provide much more information. If you are curious to learn more, I have numerous inexpensive astrological reports for sale on this site; ranging from personality analysis to annual predictive reports. If you would like a birthday report, consider the Solar Return charts available via email or instantly on line. For these ones, you will need to know the time you were born. If you are off by 30 minutes, the difference will be less for a computer-generated report. If you only know that it was around noon or in the morning, you will not benefit from these reports. Some predictive reports, such as Starlight will offer good insights without a known birth time.
If you'd like a personalized consultation, I have information about consultations on a separate page. A session ranges from 60-80 minutes depending on what issues you wish to address. I record all of my consultations and a CD will be sent to you by mail. I encourage my clients to write an email about what the issues are, this gives clarity and makes you to think about why you want a consultation. An hour flies by quickly, thus having a focus helps me address the important issues in the now. Contact me at 604.888.9552 or at anne@astrologicallyspeaking.com
