I am burning midnight oil typing the monthly and annual columns. Everything will be posted once it is written. My goal is to get it done by December 24, 08. However, should some material be missing check back. This month's column may also be a tad late. Some of the signs are still under construction.
Annual Horoscopes for the 12 signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.
The Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the Sun in Capricorn month each year—for the next couple of years, this also marks major headlines in the news. Now that Pluto is at the beginning of the sign of Capricorn, we can see how fast our World is changing. Many seasoned astrologers talk about 'rebuilding' our world, its finances and restructuring how we manage our resources, budgets etc. In short how do we manage our lives, personally and collectively? On the day of Pluto changing signs I launched a blog, www.annemassey.ca, I am writing about Pluto and Canadian politics, which has livened up considerably.
Note that I have a section "Ask Anne" on my blog, which is intended for you my readers; I will answer questions of general interest. Your name and contact information will not be made public, however, I will only entertain questions that come from an actual person with a name and email address. What might be of general interest is for example "I am a Leo, and find myself attracted to Taurus Sun... what is the astrology behind this?" That is likely to apply to many people. The blog is intended to be interactive, feel free to leave comments.
I will try to keep the astrological terms to bare minimum in this monthly column; my annual horoscopes will be up for the first of the year.
The days grow shorter in the Northern Hemisphere until the Winter Solstice, after which daylight hours begin to increase. The word solstice means to 'stand still' and is related to elevation of the Sun at 23.5 degrees; the tilt of the earth.
If we think of the planets as actors in our lives, at times they communicate well with one another, sometimes they congregate all in one area... For now we have concentrated energy until mid-April. Note the highlighting. This concentration will force each one of us to focus on one or two linked issues at length. For now the only planetary energy all on its own is Saturn, the planet which represents reality and practical, researched action. Saturn is the ruling planet for Capricorn. Thus we need to find solid, realistic means to achieve what we must. There is a nice silver-lining, but naturally there are moments, when that feels like an illusion, while we cope with our own personal issues.
In November—the Sagittarius 2008 issue, I talked about Pluto changing into Capricorn, an influence that will be with us for fourteen years. The early days tend to feature the headlines of what is to come. Headlines in the papers "Rebuild Canada" (or fill in your own country), "investing in infrastructure"—the details such as "the cost of replacing deteriorating sewer lines, expected to cost billions of dollars" are very much Pluto in Capricorn statements. One of my favourite ways of expressing the impact of Pluto is to talk about the septic tank and the field around it. With a Pluto influence it stops working properly and effluent appears in places where it shouldn't. The solution typically is that the field has to be replaced and the tank potentially doubled up to accommodate current usage. This has become a huge issue in the industrial nations. Why fix it when it isn't broken yet? Well now it is likely, and we need to wade through the "effluent" find ways and means to fix the system and get things working again. If you look up human waste in a dream dictionary, you will likely find that the symbolism in a dream is linked to money. Pluto is about waste, wealth and rebuilding. Pluto is now in the sign of the architect, businessman and doing things the proper way—we are rebuilding our world.
Mercury advisory: Mercury is retrograde from January 11-31, 2009.

The planetary motion begins to influence your career sector, all that you do for which you are known. You may feel that you need to make significant changes at work, in your role as the boss or parent. You may also find that you are having more interaction with your parents and the boss, who might be more demanding but also more willing to reward you for hard work. The holiday season may bring rewarding moments with loved ones, and it is important to keep those communication lines wide open. The current theme of the planetary energy is like having half a dozen people congregate in one room in your house, and each person has a different topic they want to talk about.
It may be easier you to make definite decisions now, we tend to begin this process by deciding what we no longer want or desire. In the final analysis what we did in our work life pales in comparison with the impact people had in our lives and how we affected another's in turn. Avoid acting in haste or respond to a false sense of urgency, the Spring brings a re-evaluation period into your life. Read your annual horoscope
Note that horoscopes address potential issues in broad terms; we have our own horoscope with an array of variables, and these provide much more information than a generalized write up. I have numerous inexpensive astrological reports for sale on this site; ranging from personality analysis to annual predictive reports. Read about the reports.
If you would like a birthday report, consider the Solar Return charts available via email or instantly on line. For these ones, you will need to know the time you were born. If you are off by 30 minutes, the difference will be less for a computer-generated report. If you only know that it was around noon or in the morning, you will not benefit from these reports. Some predictive reports, such as Starlight will offer good insights without a known birth time.
Note: The Virgo 2008 Edition discussed the Saturn effect, which applies throughout next year. I also wrote Saturn in Virgo article with horoscopes. April 19-May 20
This month, the planetary energy is moving along like a freight train, lead by responsibility, which is challenged to make somewhat radical changes. Should I go ahead or should I hold off and wait for what is going to happen when... the primary influence is centered on your goals and aspirations and planning these properly. You may feel pressed for time, feeling an added sense of urgency. We can all see that our World is changing at incredible speed; institutions we thought were sound are crumbling—how can a bank, insurance company or a billion dollar industry be in such a mess. When your sense of security is under threat you don't feel comfortable and tend to be more easily irritated by little things that do not go smoothly.
Tempers can soar; you have little or no tolerance for incompetency now. Capricorn energy is about managing things properly, following the rules and making an action plan. You have similar energy and it is difficult for you to comprehend why things cannot be done right the first time. Because this is holiday time, the year is changing and we tend to spend a lot of time with people who are dear to us, it is important to work hard at being accommodating and polite rather than creating a scene by stating what needs to be done in order to fix whatever you perceive isn't right. Remember that as children, those of us who grew up with Xmas, it was about being naughty or nice and the latter brought us gifts; and until it was time for present we didn't know which we were. May 20-June 20
Money, resources and the future is what is primarily on your mind; getting into the spirit of the season can be tougher this year. There is a need to adjust and to compromise, but how when you have other pressing issues on your mind. The Capricorn energy at our disposal this month is ideal for planning goals, setting short- and long-term tasks that will help you take control over what worries you most. Let's wait and see what happens, really does not put us in position of strength or give us a sense of being charge of our own lives and destiny.
The planetary energy is motoring on like a train, steadily over areas that have been under scrutiny, change or worry over the past decade or more. With these locomotive patterns, the energy is in motion, it is concentrated and it is difficult to turn our attention to something else. It may be easy to get ahead of ourselves, read important documents with too much haste or believe that an agreement was reached, when it was merely explored.
Keep those receipts for purchases handy, follow up on everything that has not be completed, delivered, received, etc. It will be easier to rectify things when you have the 'paperwork', receipts, etc. We have become too accustomed to thinking that the store, bank, business will have a record and we toss our paperwork and receipts out... what if the computers go down...

June 20-July 22
This month more than usual is about other people, at your best you are thinking of everyone you know attempting to acknowledge how important they are in your life. At your weakest you may succumb to "letting them know" exactly where they blundered or did something wrong. You may have more dealings with people who are in advisory capacity: doctors, lawyers, counsellors, bankers, partners and spouse. Could also be that you are dealing with challenging people and finding the compassion to understand where they are coming from can be draining.
You may feel the global uncertainty rather personally and worry about things over which we have little control. On an advisory note, keep copies of correspondence and documentation safely filed; it is easier to prove something when you have it in 'black and white'. January brings potential for communication glitches and/or having to document something important.
The Capricorn energy at our disposal this month is great for creating in action plan, planning the steps to get there and prepare your 'case', whether it is about money or terms of a contract.

July 22-August 22
The big question "what do I want to do with the rest of my life" might begin to pop into your mind more frequently. Perhaps your daily life has changed rather dramatically over the past few years (or longer, of course) and you are now becoming aware of this. This casts a completely new hue on life and everything in it. Throughout this month we have intense energy that activates just about every issue we have faced over the past decade or so. We want things to be handled properly, we want service, and we want to talk to people not automated phone systems. We don't want to hear from Mimi about credit cards or the Captain inviting us onboard for a so called free voyage. Even our casual conversations with acquaintances at the supermarket are about how the World has become something we do not 'approve'.
We tend to carry the discontent into our conversations with family and need to separate our opinions from what we really should be saying. Perhaps you want your 'routine' back, the comfort of nine to five or whatever is familiar to you. There is safety in predictability. This is a great month to 'brainstorm' about what you would like to be doing, what would please you and give you a sense of satisfaction. When we continue to do something that we no longer like, it tends to manifest in our bodies—human beings are complicated, our feelings affect our physical being.

August 22-September 22
Typically the Sun in Capricorn month is a wonderful period for you; this year what is happening globally is affecting all of us. If you are travelling, take along lots of patience—the exceptional weather is causing delays and perhaps forcing us to take an alternate route. I always find it interesting when I have to take a detour; after the initial frustration I make an effort to notice scenery I haven't seen before. There is something exciting about new experiences whether we were looking for them or they were 'forced' upon us. In terms of some of the planetary weather, we have new territory and new experiences ahead of us. In the media we hear about parallels to the Great Depression, most of us ordinary people already knew that we were in recession about a year prior to the governments recognizing it. The other parallel I'd like to bring up is to the Industrial Revolution—only now we might call the current one the Technological Revolution. Much of the workforce will be displaced. For Virgo the opportunity here is to create something innovative, back to basics, a home-based business or set up a bartering system. Necessity is the mother of invention, and your creative energy is unparalleled at present—do something with it.
It is easier for you to 'stay the course' now, you can tap into your strong, innate work ethic and plan a sound path toward your goals. Friends and loved ones are more likely to offer encouragement and support.

September 22-October 22
This month is serious family time for you each and every year—this year doubly so. The planetary energies this month and well into next year, are concentrated in a private sector of home, family, children, hobbies and your daily routines. It is an ideal year to begin new traditions, replace the ones that you feel hold little meaning any longer. You may find yourself planning a move, a sale of the house, and repairs and renovations. On an advisory note, do check that your home owner's or renter's insurance is up to date. It is also a good idea to check the major appliances in your home, beginning with furnace, water heater, etc.
Many Librans appear to be setting long-range goals, gearing toward a different, more secure foundation for life. The year is ideal for setting up a home-based business as a sideline, often our hobby becomes our second career. Astrology used to be a hobby for me—well a very interesting pastime. Nowadays my hobby is quilting. Jupiter begins to influence your creative side early in January, that's where hobbies belong. 2009 has the potential to bring you closer to realizing some of those long-held dreams. Your annual column will discuss the year in more detail. (these will be posted by year end)

October 22-November 21
This is typically a busy month for you; many details to arrange and plenty of work to be done. You are naturally organized when it comes to information, learning and keeping records. You don't forget much. This month it is easy for you to lose your temper, speak before you have thought it through—just because you know how to proceed does not mean others do—patience; choose to teach the how instead. It's a great time to use your creativity and innovative spirit to find new ways to generate income—thinking outside the proverbial box during recessionary times can prove highly profitable. Surprising announcements from your children and people close to your heart can add excitement to the season. Tune into your intuition, you can hear the whispers of the Universe when you drown out the external noise.
This month is excellent for working through any neglected paperwork, taxes, accounting and reporting, you know have the focus and concentration to deal with tedious details. It is a good idea to back up your computer files prior to the next Mercury Rx period, which begins early January. In our electronic world is becoming harder to retrieve files stored on gadgets, when the gadget fails and they do.

November 21-December 21
The planetary energy is concentrated in a small area of the sky and influencing a few specific areas of life. Your money or lack of it, communication, travel and home/family describe the string of events. You may also find that you have unplanned expenses to handle this month. I don't mean gift shopping, but big ticket items and potentially dealing warranties, repairs, etc to the same. Your daily schedule is changing and potentially interrupted by events and people in your life; you are on the go but accomplishing things that were not on your 'to-do' list. It is a good month for sorting out any outstanding matters related to income and expenses—get a head start on tax returns. January is great for doing a major cleanout at the home; throw away items you no longer use, make a trip to a 'goodwill' shop and offer more valuable items for sale on consignment. The next several years are a time to simplify.
The current Capricorn energy lasts well into the New Year, Mercury will be in Capricorn for an extended period, first time December 12-January 1 and the second time in 'reverse gear' January 21-February 14; the first retrograde period for the year is January 11-31, 2009. During this time you can gain fresh insights into how you handle your finances and naturally into what you value above all. On an advisory note, keep copies of both correspondence and all financial transactions—it is easy to get things rectified with written proof. Being aware that there are potential glitches with money and agreements, can help you handle the issues that crop up differently, not reacting in panic but finding a simple way to correct what went awry.

December 21-January 19
Happy birthday! Most of the planetary energy is in your sign, and life is more intense than usual. This year the energy you know best will stay in the picture at length. So it is all about you, what you would like to do with the rest of your life—you are the ultimate planner and organizer. What you would like to change and naturally when. Everything is highly personal now and you are expending a lot of energy toward you future goals. Your focus and concentration are excellent—perhaps a little obsessive—you know you want change and you want to feel in control of your life. Some of this energy is bound to play out through the lives and experiences of people in your life, but bottom line it is still about you. How you choose to respond or react, whether you can keep your advice to yourself, when it is clear that others do not want to hear; yes, they would benefit from your experience but avoid offering unsolicited advice this month and next.
Mercury will be in Capricorn for an extended period, first time December 12-January 1 and the second time in 'reverse gear' January 21-February 14; the first retrograde period for the year is January 11-31, 2009. When Mercury is retrograde in our Sun sign or our Ascending sign, our health and vitality are often affected. So on an advisory note, get a check up with the doctor and dentist, and pay attention that you don't overextend your energy and physical resources. We are not human doings, we are human beings.

January 19-February 18
This time of year is retreat time for you. You like to get away, spend time with people in your private life; return calls at your discretion and spend time with faith-based practise. For you this marks the end of your personal year, getting ready for your New Year. It's a wonderful time for contemplation, planning and getting in touch with your inner life. This includes how you feel, how you see the year gone by in light of the goals you set for yourself and what you can eliminate from your to do or to have list. Activities that take place behind the scenes and volunteering out there in the community are important now. You like to make a difference in the lives of others. Venus is in your sign much of the month and you feel like treating yourself as well, only after you have taken care of those who mean the most to you, that is.
You are likely to have many profound, meaningful conversations now, but in person rather than on the less intimate telephone, email, etc. Every couple of years this period of contemplation lasts longer and has more lasting impact. This year is one of those. It is also an excellent time to de-clutter your home and life; simplify, streamline and make plans to pursue your personal goals. While you wish for solitude, it is typically a busy time when many demands are placed on you—well, you know how to organize and plan in your sleep so take it as a compliment that others want your advice.

February 18-March 19
Future, big plans for your new reality are in the 'stars' this month and well into the future. The World is changing and it is easy for you to tune into the music of the spheres. This naturally means that you can translate and describe to people in your life what is going to be ahead for all of us. Having experienced rather radical changes in your life over the past 6-7 years, you have personal knowledge on how to cope with rapidly changing circumstances. This is typically a rather social time for you, this year perhaps somewhat less activity than usual, but you always make it fun for others.
It is a good time to formulate plans, discuss the options with friends and family in order to gain a different, perhaps more pragmatic perspective. Many of us need to find a new niche for our new reality, figure out ways to transfer our skill set to a new job and rearrange things in life. It is a time to simplify, realign with our personal value system. Think about some of those grand ideas you have had over the past year and how to make reality out of your dreams.

PST = Pacific Standard Time is 8 hours behind GMT=Greenwich Mean Time; PDT is Pacific Daylight Time and is 7 hours behind GMT. Time zones are typically expressed with either letters or the variance from GMT. The GMT times are given in brackets and all you need to know is the variance of your area to GMT and either add time if you live East of the Greenwich meridian at 0°W/E00' or deduct if you live west of the Greenwich meridian, which runs through England, France etc. I use a website http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ to get current information.
I use the 24-hour format on this website; that is 13:00 is 1PM, 17:00 is 5PM, thus any number in excess of 12:00 can be reduced to the PM time by deducting 12. Midnight is 0:00. Back to top
