Since July 2005 and until February 2006 Mars will have spent six months in your fifth house. Mars is associated with our actions, energy, anger, motivation and drive. October through early December Mars was moving backwards, which made this energy feel even more personal. Some of you may have incredible luck with money, and perhaps still managed to accumulate debt. As I mentioned in the annual column 2006 is a 'gold rush' year. For you the astrological houses are linked to money and resources. The cliché is "make hay while the Sun shines." You don't want to be gambling, rather take calculated risks.
Jupiter is expanding your earnings sector, while bringing in new colleagues and friends. Saturn is in the house of other people's resources; overall, you are doing rather well in terms of material gain. This can be the year to break into the real estate market, buy that first home and/or do it in partnership. Note that during the gold rush both millionaires and paupers made headlines. With Neptune of illusion in your personal money house, you may have limited cash flow. In life, we tend to get our expectations met. So if you focus on where you have lack and limitations rather than what is going right, you tend to make the 'have not' your reality.
This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives. This one is personal for people who have planets at 1°Aquarius, 23-24°Capricorn and 16°. Your Sun is at 1°Aquarius if you were born the day after the Sun moved into Aquarius. Your Sun is at 23-24°Capricorn if you were born January 12-14 and at 16°Capricorn if you were born January 7.
During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.
Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me-a little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.
Your birth date and other planetary placements modify any of the statements. This column only addresses one factor, a generic Sun in Capricorn. This is a significant year for you. Firstly, you may begin to note discontent with the direction your life has taken. After contemplation and reminders from people and events in your life, you start noting what it is you wish to change and go about doing so. The cycle launched now completes in eight years. In 2010, there is a significant culmination point to decisions and actions set in motion in the early part of 2006, based on your newfound (or rediscovered) attitude. More about Venus in the annual write-up.
The Nodes have occupied the axis of home vs. career since December 2004. This axis is always a balancing act. Your job may have changed and you have solid goals you now wish to achieve in order to have security. Family members can be supportive during this time. This might also coincide with a move, retirement, grandchildren, because you have a stronger yearning to spend more time at home. Often this is also a time when we learn more about our subjective view of ourselves-our roots and have many revelations into our innate nature.
Mid-year this axis shifts into the houses of travel and higher education and daily schedules and routines. This is a 1.5-year period, during which your daily setting and activities change. Our neighbourhood holds more allure than the big world out there. We desire to become involved in local politics and groups, yearn to reconnect with siblings and childhood friends. During this time, you may step up to the plate to coach or teach others.
The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation-the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?
The cycles tend to overlap and bring similar messages. The first of the three Mercury cycles takes place February 8 - April 12 in your 3rd house. The people represented by this sector of the chart are siblings, cousins, neighbours, and the people we chat with on a daily basis. The issues are communication, travel, transportation, gathering knowledge and daily schedules. You may find yourself without means of transportation, needing to connect with others in order to get where you need to be. There is a strong need to find common ground, and learn to accept each other through open communication-no excuses. As this is the knowledge gathering section of our lives - "Be curious always! For knowledge will not acquire you: you must acquire it." - Sudie Back. Perhaps you desire to learn something new. This describes a naturally busy environment, and it now became even busier. Before we can start anything, we do need to analyze it, research the pros and cons and then make an informed decision. It's a good time to mend any broken or strained relationships with sisters, brothers or similar individuals who used to be part of your daily life.
July-August Mercury spends extra time in your relationship house. This is the place for the autumnal eclipses and the nodal axis mid-year. The all-encompassing word OTHERS is what astrology actually assigns to this 7th house of relationships. It is about partnerships at all levels not just about a marriage partner, but also our lawyer, accountant, grocer or business partner. What is interesting about our relationships is that from a metaphysical or philosophical point of view- people we encounter and associate with are a reflection of both our strengths and weaknesses. When we vehemently hate a characteristic in someone else, it is ultimately about ourselves and we have yet to own that traitor have failed to let that part of our nature go. Conversely, when we idolize a trait in someone else we have yet to claim that characteristic as our own. Others are a mirror, which reflects our own image back to us. That is a difficult concept to own, your shortcomings are my shortcomings. So now is the time to address these issues and your relationships with others in general-easy to put into words but sometimes tougher to live through. We might speculate that the potential for marriage, falling in love-madly, deeply and irrevocably-is possible. Regardless what of what the relationship issues are, these will emerge. There is a need to communicate with honesty and openness.
October-November Mercury in Scorpio spends time in your 11 th house. You get to tackle groups and friends first in the course of this cycle. Now it is time to enter the big world, restart networking, and make connections with people who share your interests and passion for making a difference. It is time to meet new people, and to form long-lasting bonds. This represents the area of life, but we address our long-term goals, our deepest desires and aspirations- those five-year plans. The people associated with this house are friends and colleagues, and members of groups we belong to. This house represents the rewards we gain from our career or avocation, and this is where we determine our wishes and aspirations and choose to pursue these. New friendships are formed, and old ones may fade away or move to a more intimate level. Is it all worth it? Does it give you a sense of satisfaction? No praise in the world can make it feel worthwhile, if you personally don't feel so. This period may also prompt you to get involved with charitable organizations, to do for others less fortunate than yourself. If you choose to work through the issues, you'll find your life overall more rewarding with one or more of the concepts and with a few people. For the heads up refer to the Mercury column for 2006.
This year has a potential of being incredible for Capricorn. Anything you may have begun work on in the latter part of 2006 seems to have a life force all of its own. It's a year of coming into your own.
