Libra Horoscope 2006

Year Ahead

Libra September 22-October 23

Mars in Taurus 8th house and Fixed cross 2, 5, 8, 11

Since July 2005 and until February 2006 Mars will have spent six months in your eighth house of shared (other people's) resources. So you might have acquired a new debt, loan or an obligation in order to have something you value. Mars is associated with our actions, energy, anger, motivation and drive. October through early December Mars was moving backwards, which made this energy feel even more personal. Some of you may have incredible luck with money. As I mentioned in the annual column this is a 'gold rush' year. For you the astrological houses are linked to money and resources. The cliché is "make hay while the Sun shines." You don't want to be gambling, rather take calculated risks.

Jupiter is expanding your personal resources, filling up your hours with lots of stuff to do, Saturn is in the earnings from career house; all in all you are doing rather well in terms of material gain. This can be the year to break into the real estate market, buy that first home and/or do it in partnership. Note that during the gold rush both millionaires and paupers made headlines. With Neptune of illusion in your 'gambling' house, set limits if heading to the casino (and don't budge) and ensure that any financial risk you take is a calculated one.

New Venus in the 4th house

This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives. During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.

Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me-a little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.

Well the fourth house is easy in terms of astrological concepts-home and family. Might you choose to settle down this year? The themes can range from renovations to deep conversations with a counselor about what makes us tick. It is about whether we love where we are, how we live within our family structure and how we view ourselves. This has little to do with how others see us, because no amount of praise means anything if we don't find it true within ourselves. At the end of a life, we don't look back on the money or possessions we accumulated but at the people who we loved and who loved us, and the difference we made in someone's life. It's not about doing good deeds because it is expected, but doing this naturally because we feel it is the right thing. This period on an intimate level is about having a heart-to-heart with yourself. You need to see what others are seeing as well, to gain a new appreciation for yourself. When we love who we are, others see that radiate from us, and we receive what we put out there back ten-fold. Are you happy with the way life is going? Are you happy with whom you have become? What is truly important to you to help you grow as content human being? More about Venus...

North Node in 7-1 shifts to 6-12

The pointer is directed at others, so until mid-2006, others come first. Relationships and relating is a two-way street, sometimes we need to put ourselves first and at other times not. This one is a NOT. In the course of this period, the other influences emphasize the importance of emotional attachment-we are learning about bonding. This could be one of the few indicators required, astrologically speaking, for changing your marital status. You may have had people and offers from the past resurface during this influence to reflect the changed you.

The all-encompassing word OTHERS is what astrology actually assigns to this 7th house of relationships. It is about partnerships at all levels not just about a marriage partner, but also our lawyer, accountant, grocer or business partner, etc. What is interesting about our relationships is that from a metaphysical or philosophical point of view - people we encounter and associate with are a reflection of both our strengths and weaknesses. When we vehemently hate a characteristic in someone else, it is ultimately about ourselves and we have yet to own that trait or have failed to let that part of our nature go. Conversely, when we idolize a trait in someone else we have yet to claim that characteristic as our own. Others are a mirror, which reflects our own image back to us. That is a difficult concept to own, your shortcomings are my shortcomings. So now is the time to address these issues and your relationships with others in general-easy to put into words, sometimes tougher to live through.

Axis shifts mid-2006 and work type issues surface as a priority. During this time frame the issues pertaining to the 6th house, which is associated with work, chores and health, as well as acquiring and honing practical skills and learning to cope with the practical side of life, are the issues that need to be addressed. In order to survive we need to have a set of skills, to cook in order to feed ourselves or at least know how to provide nourishment to ourselves. We need to know how to pay our bills, secure services we need and all kinds of practical mundane skills - common sense can go a long way, but in order to cultivate that sensibility we need to have learned basic coping skills. Co-workers are defined by this house, and while the influence is in this area of our lives it may be the time to learn to understand your co-workers and accept the things that cannot be changed and learn to take practical steps in order to work toward solutions with the relationships that can be improved.

Mercury Rx in the earth or substance houses

The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation-the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?

The Mercury cycles take place in the houses linked to substance in your solar chart. We are talking money, your capacity to support and sustain yourself and those who depend on you. It's 'roll up your sleeves', and do the work kind of year. In March, Mercury visits your solar house associated with work, daily routines and people in your work life. This can be a time of repeat performances, redoing tasks, fixing things and polishing off projects. Your vitality may not be as high now, so pay particular attention to diet and healthy living. The affairs of someone you work with may become more of your business-remember to keep all communications clear. Words are difficult to retract.

In July-August, the emphasis is on the career front-your status and reputation is under scrutiny. The timeline actually begins February 8 and concludes April 12 (repeats in 2007). During this time dealings with the boss and other authority type figures and institutions can prove challenging. You may need to justify your actions and choices, while redoing any hastily performed projects and tasks. During this time, you might make new choices about how you eke out a living.

In the course of October-November, Mercury takes a tour of your money house, which also encompasses concepts of possessions, what you value and a priceless commodity called time. During July, pay attention to where you store or leave those easy to lose items such as the wallet, keys, cell phones, etc. Read those financial statements with care, even automated banking isn't foolproof. This might be the month to avoid making any major purchases-you might end of with a 'lemon'. If it has value, keep it safe. Now might also be a good time to trim things off your agenda; doing too many things can wreak havoc with productivity as well as your own sense of well-being. Read more about Mercury for 2006.

Eclipses or other notables

There is one eclipse in your solar seventh house of OTHERS; read others come first. Does it take an eclipse to get a Libran to fall madly, deeply in love? I'd think so; you are not the quickest to bond, as you won't settle in your relationships. Read the annual column for analysis on the eclipses. A reminder, for you this is year is primarily about creating security and resources. The other significant theme is forming significant relationships.

See annual write-up for general themes for the year. Note that this horoscope addresses only a limited amount of the horoscope, the Sun in Libra. We are so much more than that.
