This is my version of a Blog. According to Wikipedia, (http://en.wikipedia.org) blogging has quickly emerged as a popular and important means of communication in the early 21st Century—electronic communication (Uranus) without face-to-face communication and the need to spell words correctly. The primary need is to share thoughts and ideas with a more global connection, well how very Uranian. Incidentally, I had to add blog and blogging to my dictionary so that there would be no red underlines, when we type on the web; there is no spell checker in place (Mercury). Thanks to so many online dictionaries and encyclopedias, there is no need to haul out dusty reference books, unless you are an astrologer or a scholar with a quest to understand life, i.e. how it was perceived by ancient peoples.
I have spent a lifetime attempting to understand why we do what we do and why we are who we are through the lens of astrology. Did you know that a lifetime has a distinct measurement? In the Hebrew system a lifetime is 18 years, a lunar node cycle. To study and to muse over what we have studied helps us understand how some of the universal energies operate. Naturally, we human beings are limited in our capacity to comprehend it all, so here are some of my musings about what I think I understand.
Since Uranus entered Pisces in 2003, numerous shows dealing with the supernatural were launched on TV. We now have the Medium, the Ghost Whisperer, and a FBI agent, who has visions… A pragmatic, grounded male friend recently blurted out that I must be psychic! He explained how he had images about what was going to happen on the way home from work etc. Simple stuff, such as he would be caught at the railway crossing to wait out a long train.
In the last few years, various on-line sites offer computerized astrology reports, tarot card readings, etc. Many of us find our way to these sites to scout out what the future holds. When the future arrives we think to ourselves "I knew it was going to happen" with more frequency than in the past.
The Industrial Revolution has given way to the Technological Revolution. Maybe the sub-era now is the Digital Revolution. Just as a media reminder, there is also a show called Numbers, where crimes are resolved using various mathematical theories. New technology arrives so fast that consumers barely have time to keep up. My first job out of high school was a mainframe computer operator; the very same year Bill Gates began his computer empire from the garage of his parent's home. The computer I worked on had fewer resources than a cell phone has now but took up enormous chunks of floor space at a retail chain's head office. Most experts thought that computers were only for business back then. We were still using telex machines to deliver messages, long-distance charges were high and not everyone had a telephone. Now most of us have at least two, we also have a computer or two and our TVs are not only in colour but also in high definition. We also have two or three remotes to get the TV to communicate with the home entertainment system, and good luck finding a VHS tape with your favourite new release.
The ingress of Uranus into Pisces also launched a 7-year period when Uranus is in mutual reception with Neptune . The astrological term means that Uranus is in the sign ruled by Neptune and Neptune is in the sign ruled by Uranus. A connection allows free movement of ideas. Neptune is the planet associated with dreams, visions, illusions, movies, and imagination. Uranus is the planet associated with inventions, innovation and EUREKA of discoveries. The other day (January 2006) there was a space launch aimed at Pluto, which is fast approaching the Galactic centre—the centre of our Universe. Back in 1975, we have had the Moonwalk six years prior, and we dreamt of space travel.
Movies and TV shows have always had the science fiction shows that have presented the views of writers of the time on what the future could be like. Science fiction has a way of becoming science fact; those little glimpses spark an idea that becomes someone else's obsession. Presently, people with foresight talk about the technological and scientific discoveries advancing double in the next seven years compared with the past century. Is that possible?
I recall when my grandmother (born in 1910) got her telephone in the 1970's. She curtsied when she answered the telephone as if people at the other end could appreciate the silent gesture. Today's grandmothers have a computer, an email account and some even the latest handheld communication device. In the 1980's personal computers were glorified typewriters and by the 1990's we had games and interactive programs. The one technology that is behind times is voice-activation. Some cell phones have a feature, software was launched a decade ago for PC's but when will be able to tell the TV, computer or other gadget to turn on just by saying so? Perhaps when Uranus of Innovation finally moves in Aries of action not mere visions, we might see voice technology making headlines.
Before Uranus in Aries and once Pluto is in Capricorn—just a few short years—we continue to have this amazing mutual reception. This decade is a time when we can collectively dream a new kind of future. Perhaps it comes with more ease for the water signs who feel a compelling urge to dream something different that feeds the soul. Scorpio and Cancer planets receive a trine from radical Uranus but a more unsettled connection from vague Neptune . If we place the Cancer Sun on the ASC, Uranus occupies the ninth house of higher learning, philosophy, law and the big, strange universe out there. What an eye-opening setting to help you explore new ideas, new concepts and broaden your horizon. It is also a potentially disturbing scenario if things are not going well with in-laws or you are questioning your beliefs. Years ago, I heard the term personal earthquake for Uranus; well said I must say. In this same chart, Neptune has taken residence in the 8 th house of wealth, commitment and taxes, to name but a few concepts we assign to the house of death. Neptune has a knack for dissolving things—with a flick of the wrist the 'fairy' in a tale made the pumpkin turn into a carriage when she could have just as readily turned it into a toad…
If we place the Scorpio Sun on the ASC, Uranus occupies the fifth house of creativity, children, recreation and FUN. What a delightful setting to have so many unique insights into what could be. It is also a potentially disturbing scenario if things are not going well with children and romance. Neptune has dwelt in the area of the chart linked to home, hearth and family for eons it seems; in reality that is a few years now. Natural structures are dissolving, natural if you are older and it was time for children to move on but not necessarily so for younger people. It could be a rather unsettled time with familial structures while you discover a more divine side of yourself. Wherever Neptune settles we have fog. Perhaps a more descriptive way would be to talk about looking at everything through the element of water; it distorts and makes things look magical. Neptune 's blessing is that we are mesmerized by it all.
Taurus planets receive a sextile from Uranus: opportunities present themselves; yet there is the pushy aspect from Neptune to nudge us forward to what—an illusion, something that does not look concrete. Faith, now there is an unsettling concept for practical Taurus! Just in case you took a sigh of relief, not a single Taurus planet in your chart, note that Taurus still occupies space in your astrological landscape—could be your career from a solar perspective as in horoscopes, or any other house in your chart. Houses are prime real estate in astrology; there are twelve of them. Uranus can have shake up effect to wake us up from the sleep of complacency. While the energy is 'rocking' your status quo there are opportunities to change your housing, work or money situation to name but a few important concepts we need to deal with in life.
I am not going to go through the signs one by one, and play out potential scenarios. The beauty of it all is that we all have all of the signs and planets in our charts, which astrologically speaking represent various facets of our life. It is natural to see parts of our life through the distorting lens of water, through the lightning strikes of Uranus… Normalcy and predictability is the unnatural way to be. None of us is normal or predictable after all—perhaps parts, but not the whole package.
Bette Davies in a famous movie from a bygone era had a famous line about buckling up for a bumpy ride. I think of that line often and wonder how well equipped we are to sail the unpredictable ocean of humanity with all its wonderful idiosyncrasies.
