Venus the planet of desire is in enthusiastic Aries for weeks on end—the normal is about three weeks; but once every eighteen months that flow is broken and Venus begins a long transit through one of five signs. This time we are all looking for inspiration while we re-evaluate what our personal values are. I posted an article about Venus this spring both on my website and on my blog. I have written longer horoscopes from this perspective and these ones will apply all the way until June 2009. Venus will be in Aries for 112 days this year and she will be retrograde from March 6 until April 17, 2009. Venus will also return to Pisces for a few days — April 11-23. The Venus periods at 18-month intervals are about finding true value, both in our lives and on the global scene.
This month, while the Sun is in Pisces, we still have that locomotive pattern travelling through a short stretch of the Zodiac. Venus has pulled away from the pack. She is a brilliant evening star, reaching her greatest brilliance at the end of February. She is about to turn retrograde, March 6 for 43 days. She becomes a morning star on March 27.
In the course of this month Mars moves into Pisces March 14 and Mercury moves into Pisces March 8. From February 14 through early March we have some dreamy aspects, which at their best produce wonderful romantic moments and at their worst we have deception. This month is great for connecting with your dreams, envisioning how to attain your heart's desire. I expect lots of announcements about pending nuptials.
This column features the horoscopes for each sign looking at Venus in Aries for almost four months. The dates are given for Venus both in Aries and Pisces as well as the dates when she turns retrograde and when she begins her new cycle (New Venus). This influence is active from February 1-June 6, 2009. This spring and particularly March 6-April 17 is a time of re-evaluation, re-assessing and reconnecting with past choices we have made. By their very nature sign-based analysis is generalized, because we can only apply the energy to one sign and/or planet. An analysis of your birth chart would give a better and naturally more accurate delineation of the potentialities in your life.

The analysis by sign is about areas of life based on a solar chart; you can also apply this to the Ascendant sign. The sign based write-ups offer ideas of what might be going on, but because each one of us is highly unique, the specifics are not addressed. Each of the horoscopes has a keyword header that spells out the BIG theme for the spring.
All times used are in the 24-hour format. Refresh your memory about time zones. Refresh your memory about time zones . I am also adding introductory pages about astrology; read about the Sun moving through the signs each year and the notion of being born on the cusp. The dates used in the horoscopes here reflect typical dates using Pacific time, which is -7 hours from GMT during daylight savings time and -8 hrs during standard time.
March 19-April 19
If Venus is travelling through the first house it is about you, your attitude and vitality. The question you might find yourself pondering is whether you are living up to your own expectations. Do you like who you have become and what you are doing with your life? Naturally, if one of those degrees—the stationary ones or the New Venus degree—happen to be conjunct your Ascendant or your Sun, the themes are even more personal as now it directly linked to your identity, actions and approach to life. People born March 26-29 or April 5-7 are likely to feel the impact more.
Aries has Venus in close to you Sun for four months. That is our ego we are talking about, our very essence - that which we strive toward. So how do you take a close, honest look at who you have become? It is both great and challenging at the same time. You get support and encouragement from sources you least expected it from and discouragement comes from similar opposing sources. These are the times we discover who our true friends are. This period rolls around for you at 8-year intervals, with a booster shot every four years, about the same time of the year as now. The renewed strength that comes from the current experiences will boost your self-confidence. We tend to get to a place, where we start thinking I am only..., this all I can expect, etc. Negative re-enforcement needs to be replaced with positive affirmation. A good exercise, is to stand in front of the mirror for a few seconds (and work toward longer periods) and give ourselves positive feedback — I am beautiful, I love myself, I am worthy of ____. Fill in your desire, the one you have given up on.
February 19-March 20 is an ideal time to reconnect with your own values and beliefs; the insights that arise during moments of deep contemplation can provide wonderful inspiration for the next eight years and naturally for addressing any of your current issues or quandaries. During the years Venus spends extra time in your sign you are getting in touch with who you are and what you truly value about yourself and the people around you.
Note that horoscopes address potential issues in broad terms; we have our own horoscope with an array of variables, and these provide much more information than a generalized write up. I have numerous inexpensive astrological reports for sale on this site; ranging from personality analysis to annual predictive reports. Read about the reports. If you would like a birthday report, consider the Solar Return charts available via email or instantly on line. For these ones, you will need to know the time you were born. If you are off by 30 minutes, the difference will be less for a computer-generated report. If you only know that it was around noon or in the morning, you will not benefit from these reports. Some predictive reports, such as Starlight will offer good insights without a known birth time. The next step is to book a consultation.

April 19-May 20
Taurus has Aries in the twelfth house, the area, astrologically speaking, that represents all our fears, doubts, faith and our surrender. This is where we place enemies, and invisible forces. Many a Taurus Sun individual naturally has personal planets in Aries — so do read the Aries blurb as well. We outgrow things in our life, but letting go is easy to say but harder to do. This is an extended period of soul searching and perhaps a quest for spiritual truths. Faith is built up during times like these. This is the most private area of our lives, so chances are that there is little talk about the things that are on your mind. Dreams can get rather vivid now; unravelling the meaning behind the universal symbolism can assist in understanding these deep concepts better. This period is likely also about what changes you desire in your life. Count your blessings and don't think in terms of tossing aside, it is the inherent value we should seek with this influence. Often it only seems that we don't deserve or haven't earned, the reality may be quite different.
We tend to travel back to the past both literally and figuratively during these long Venus periods. We revisit old relationships typically in order to understand who we have become in the course of the years. Because Venus is your ruling planet, you tend to fee land experience things more personally (once every 18 months). This Spring it is about embracing the unknown and contemplating taking chances on something different/new.
Venus is a wonderful teacher; the Hellenistic Astrologers some two thousand years ago called Venus the purifier and the balancer. Vedic astrologers talk about her as the teacher to mortals. During the years Venus is in Aries at length (see above for dates), you are learning about facing your fears, getting in touch with your spiritual nature and becoming more compassionate and accommodating.

May 20-June 20
Gemini has Aries in the eleventh house. The people associated with this house are friends and colleagues, and members of groups we belong to. This house represents the rewards we gain from our career or avocation, and this is where we determine our wishes and aspirations and choose to pursue these. New friendships are formed, and old ones may fade away or move to a more intimate level. Is it all worth it? Does it give you a sense of satisfaction? No praise in the world can make it feel worthwhile, if you personally don't feel so. This period may also prompt you to get involved with charitable organizations, to do for others less fortunate than yourself. If you choose to work through the issues, you'll find your life overall more rewarding in one or more of the concepts and with a few people.
You may feel that you are not fully appreciated, and are likely to talk or think about these issues. Appreciation begins with self, others respond to how we are and behave, and by changing something in our attitude we begin to alter our experience of life. This is a wonderful time to realign with your aspirations and begin to create the future you would rather have.
February 19-March 20 is an ideal time to reconnect with your own goals and desires; the insights that arise through conversations with colleagues and friends, can provide wonderful stimulation to follow your dreams over the next eight years and naturally for addressing any of your current issues or quandaries. During the years Venus spends extra time in Aries you are getting in touch with what it is you desire from life and what it is you need to do to accomplish this.

June 20-July 22
Cancer has Aries in the tenth house. The major concepts are career and status. Venus in Fire seeks inspiration and Venus in a Cardinal sign wants a new direction. These Venus periods are when we question our direction, choices and assess whether we still love what we are doing. This is most pronounced during the retrograde period, which is from March 6-April 17. This may be a time you decide that it is time to get married, sign that contract, etc. If you feel that you are not valued at work or by someone in your life, you are likely to make new plans, significant revisions, etc. It can be an ideal time to seek new opportunities, find ways to acquire new skills and it all begins by reassessment of what you think you are worth. The previous time we had similar energy in play was February-June 2001.
Naturally the energy can play out through what is happening at work or with bosses. The reality of the recession may play out a bit more personal now. For many of us the external events launch new choices and a new direction. You might have changes on the home front, getting into or out of a home, making room for someone in your space or you might find yourself helping a friend over an extended period. We value different things as we mature and periodically we reassess what that has become and what we no longer value or need.
Friends from the past might suddenly contact you, and through your interactions with them you are likely to revisit old issues in order to find closure and a new beginning. I find that Venus brings us closer to our heart's desire over a lifetime and these four-month periods once every 18 months in five different areas of life are what help us unfold our potential. Ultimately our quest is for true and lasting value.

July 22-August 22
Leo has Aries in the ninth house. The 9th house represents long-distance travel, foreign connections, in-laws, religion, advanced studies and all those concepts that broaden our perspective. This is where opinions become convictions, hopefully with knowledge and information. Your opinions are likely to change, and you may have an opportunity to travel more and explore the World from a new perspective.
When people get involved, we do have to make an honest effort to find common ground, not chit-chat but real, meaningful conversations pave the way to good rapport. This house is also the planning house for our career —that is higher education is gained here — thus opportunities that died on the vine, or so it seems, may resurface in slightly different form. This is a great time to explore your options
Maybe you'll even fall in love with someone from a totally different background or country. What a lovely time, despite having to dig deep into your convictions. I choose the quotes for each column to illustrate the essence of the energy, this month it is "We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about." This spring is a wonderful time to reconnect with your innate enthusiasm, feel inspired and try something new. The two previous years when Venus was in Aries this long were 2001 and 1993. If you think back and look at a bigger shift, you can get an idea about what this might mean for you.

August 22-September 22
Virgo has Aries in the eighth house. This spring is a wonderful time to work on your resources, find new ways to build investments and to do serious research. We also dredge up old issues both with money and with regard to intimate relationships.
What motivates you, how comfortable are you with transitions between life and death, or transitions from one relationship to another, or change period. Time, once again, to visit these issues. Take any financial documents and reporting seriously now, you don't want to end up with a bigger price tag than necessary. This is where we deal with taxes as well as the septic tank. This house contains most of the concepts we'd rather not discuss in public — sex, death, surgery, elimination, etc. as well as the subjects that shed light on these — psychology, detective work, plumbing 101 or excavation 102. Heavy duty subjects for some, others might just remember spending more intimate time with partner or having to have the septic tank emptied as it backed into the house. This is an ideal time to have some intimate conversations with self, learning from the priorities of others. The big question is why am I here?
During this Pisces month, relationships are doubly in the picture. You want a commitment, you want enthusiasm and ardour. Just think of the headlines these days, all the countries are offering stimulus packages to get things moving—you too would like a stimulus package to rekindle your passion for life and your relationship.

September 22-October 22
Libra has Aries in the seventh house. The last time Venus of romance spent this kind of time in Aries was back in February-June 2001. Venus is the ruling planet for Libra and also influences your eighth house, which is where we share things with others. In the course of this spring more and more planetary energy shifts into your relationship sector. The alignments at the moment are rather spectacular for taking your romantic relationship onto a new level with commitment; this could mean moving into a nest together, starting to plan a wedding and even starting a family. Libra has a reputation of being a relationship sign, but I do find that there is an incredible strong independent streak in Librans. You do take your sweet time before agreeing to commit to a relationship—it has to be perfect and balanced, right.
The time when Venus is retrograde, March 6-April 17 is not ideal for beginning new relationships and when we do, these tend to last for a while and we learn a lot about relationships and do grow.
Regardless what of what the relationship issues are, these will emerge. The need to communicate with heart not just words is strong. While marriage is not ideally timed when it takes place with Venus retrograde. Successful marriages have begun under these circumstances. When it is brand new, not simply finalizing a long-standing relationship it might be prudent to wait until the Summer. When something lasts a long period, we have plenty of time to reflect on things, and with Venus retrograde we may be tempted to settle. Venus doesn't want us to settle rather go after what we truly deserve.
All of the energy gathers on one quarter of the chart (with the exception of Saturn). For you there are a couple of issues that are front and centre this month (and into the next), work, relationships and commitment. At work pay extra attention to details and safety; it is easy to become distracted, especially during times when we feel in love and spend a fair bit of time thinking about that rather than concentrate on what we should. Because the house of work and chores is also the house of illness and/or ailments, it would be prudent to pay attention to any 'aches or pains' —now is a good time to visit your physician for that annual check up; and that includes the dentist, etc.

October 22-November 21
Scorpio has Aries in the sixth house. It is about work, chores and getting organized now; and the issue of wellness is up front and personal once again. It is about your habits and how you might feel you need to change something in your life. This influence also represents how we hone our skills, practice what we have learned and are of assistance to others. It is also the house of sickness and health. If you have already made positive changes in these areas, you are looking after your health, doing physical exercise and have made strides at improving communication with co-workers and people in your daily life, life can be absolutely wonderful, putting a smile on your face as you perform your tasks and chores. If, however, you have held on to old ways of doing things, out of obligation and necessity, then things are likely to start shaking up.
We are supposed to love what we do and be happy with the compensation, or learn to love what we do. We make strides in our lives to pursue way to eke out an income and to establish an avocation or calling that fills that innate need within us. Ideally these two are the same, but that is seldom the case. This is the house where we encounter the issue of been there, done that, got the T-shirt and now it is time to move on. Venus wants our heart to sing with joy, and if that isn't the case, then it is time to make it so. Anything that falls short of being worth it needs change.
Naturally this does not happen without soul-searching and often we also need to listen to all kinds of unsolicited advice. Listen to the intent behind the sometimes stinging words.
Family matters are important this month and particularly as they relate to your partner and children. News from children and loved ones can cause worry; we tend to fret about our children's lives more than about our own.

November 21-December 21
Sagittarius has Aries in the fifth house of romance —isn't it lo-ve-ly, as in the song. If not, well, it needs to be. This is the house of Venus' Joy. Are you truly happy? Are you giving and receiving love and appreciation? Not just in words but in shows of affection. This is the house that represents love; the people in this area of the chart are those we open our hearts to. I have found that we do not give up on relationships easily with Venus retrograde, rather we work on making things better. This is the perfect time to fall in love again. Children also belong to this area, and the time period affords us the luxury of connecting with our children at a deeper level, and with our adult children about it is learning to appreciate who they have become. There comes a time when we have to accept that they are no longer like the little boy we cuddled or the little girl we consoled, but grown men and women with a unique set of priorities and values that we helped shape. The third component of this area of the chart is creativity, if you have been finding excuses as to why you cannot put pen to paper, brush to canvas, etc. then now is the time to start expressing your unique creative energies —no excuses. Creativity should be defined as whatever turns your crank or makes your heart sing.
During this month the Sun is in the sector that represents family and home, which tends to mean that we spend more time with family members and that we want to spruce up our homes.
This is a busy month, lots of meetings, travel and communication; it is easy to feel overwhelmed with the amount of things you are supposed to be able to do. Be realistic and prioritize, we always end up with things that never get done. The more energy we attach to those unattended things, the more stress we tend to create.

December 21-January 19
Capricorn has Aries in the fourth house . This area of the chart contains concepts such as home, roots and family as well as our subjective view of self. The themes can range from renovations to deep conversations with a counsellor about what makes us tick. It is also about reconnecting with family members, showing your appreciation and most likely spending more time talking about feelings, the importance of family, etc.
Once again it is about whether we love where we are, how we live within our family structure and how we view ourselves. This has little to do with how others see us, because no amount of praise means anything if we don't find it true within ourselves. At the end of a life we don't look back on the money or possessions we accumulated but at the people who we loved and who loved us, and the difference we made in someone's life.
It's not about doing good deeds because it is expected, but doing this naturally because we feel it is the right thing. So this period on an intimate level is about having a heart-to-heart with yourself. You need to see what others are seeing as well, to gain a new appreciation for yourself. When we love who we are, others see that radiate from us, and we receive what we put out there back ten-fold. Are you happy with the way life is going? Are you happy with who you have become? What is truly important to you to help you grow as content human being?
The planetary energy in Aquarius influences your money sector. Unless you happen to work in the banking, accounting or investing industry, this means that you need to cut back on expenses, account for your money, and get the paperwork together for taxation, and other similar things. When it comes to money or investments this month, if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
Life can be more social now that the Sun is in Pisces, communications tend to flow with ease. Perhaps not necessarily at home and with family members, because our values are all different and we need to learn to embrace those differences.

January 19-February 18
Aquarius has Aries in the third house. The people represented by this sector of the chart are siblings, cousins, neighbours, and the people we chat with on a daily basis. The issues are communication, travel, transportation, gathering knowledge and daily schedules. You may find yourself without means of transportation, needing to connect with others in order to get where you need to be. There is a strong need to find common ground, and learn to accept each other through open communication —no excuses. As this is the knowledge gathering section of our lives—"Be curious always! Knowledge will not acquire you: you must acquire it." —Sudie Back. Perhaps you desire to learn something new. This transit is strong enough to prompt educational pursuits. When this period subsides early-June you will have a different perception of self, and hopefully you have also taken care of any health issues and are now leading a healthier life-style. Plus you'll have learned how to express your intimate thoughts more effectively, making this an excellent time to forge stronger bonds with people you care about.
During the Sun in Pisces month you are dealing with money matters, which is always a drag and since 2003 chances are you have had some disruptions with regard to your possessions, personal finances, etc. This spring is an ideal time to sort through these things and find your own stimulus package (not of course as grand as the governments are doling out). Remember also that we are now looking for the real value, true value and reassessing our personal ideals. Jupiter is in your sign as is Mars until mid-March, these two are likely to both energize you and give you a welcome boost in terms of what you can accomplish now.
There are some excellent days for Aquarius at the end of February; we need a few during these challenging times. Take advantage of the energy and network, communicate and ask for advice, assistance, information and all of that… it is amazing what transpires when we decide to follow our instincts!

All of the monthly and annual columns are archived on the site; most of these have a more lasting theme; some address life for the next 15 years. The archived columns are listed on the articles page. This month the primary topic is Venus and these themes stay with us until early June 2009.
February 18-March 19
Pisces has Aries in the second house —this translates to a need to deal with money, material security, priorities, values and personal assessment of one's own worth, both figuratively and literally. Anything found wanting will be made better, by force or persuasion, in order for you to feel content and comfortable once again. Comfort and contentment are Venus concepts after all. Any source of discontentment did not arrive over night; you have likely just pushed it back away from your thoughts, promising yourself to address the issues one of these days. It doesn't really even need to be now, but this repeats at eight year intervals, with a reminder every four years, although any issues will be more difficult to ignore now. After the period passes you should find yourself in a more solid financial position and with a stronger appreciation of self, and what your core values are.
The second house is one of the easiest to delineate, it is about money and what we happen to value. It is time to re-evaluate what you do with money, how you earn it and what you feel you are worth both in practical terms but also in terms of feeling appreciated. I like to keep it simple with houses; typically we can nail the essence with the most common themes in each house. The third house is associated with communication, our thought processes and travel. You can readily find the words on most websites and any beginner astrology book. The essence of the Venus cycle is that once every eight years we find ourselves dealing with similar types of issues until we learn to appreciate the concepts these contain.
Solar Return is a birthday chart, cast for the time that the Sun returns to the identical position it held at birth. You do need a timed chart for this; however, all Pisces Sun individuals will have Venus in Aries in their birthday chart. Those born on or after March 6, will have Venus retrograde in this birthday chart. Thus the influence lingers on longer and influences your entire year. From the Sun perspective we are looking at needing to adjust money matters, work on improving your financial situation and spending a fair bit of time contemplating where your values lie. This spring we have some nice aspects to that Venus, so chances are that your situation improves significantly over the next year. Mars moving into your sign for six weeks beginning March will energize you and bring back your motivation to do things.
PST = Pacific Standard Time is 8 hours behind GMT=Greenwich Mean Time; PDT is Pacific Daylight Time and is 7 hours behind GMT. Time zones are typically expressed with either letters or the variance from GMT. The GMT times are given in brackets and all you need to know is the variance of your area to GMT and either add time if you live East of the Greenwich meridian at 0°W/E00' or deduct if you live west of the Greenwich meridian, which runs through England, France etc. I use a website http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ to get current information.
I use the 24-hour format on this website; that is 13:00 is 1PM, 17:00 is 5PM, thus any number in excess of 12:00 can be reduced to the PM time by deducting 12. Midnight is 0:00
