Sagittarius Horoscope 2006

Year Ahead

Sagittarius November 23 - December 21

Mars in Taurus 6th house and Fixed cross 3, 6, 9, 12

Mars has spent over four months in your 6th house; this began in July 2005 and continues until February 17. Mars is associated with our actions, energy, anger, motivation and drive. October through early December Mars was moving backwards, which made this energy feel even more personal. How you deal with work and tedium has been tested; thoughts about how to parlay all your effort into money have been a pronounced theme. You have the green light now to pursue productive change. Maybe in hindsight it was not about changing jobs as much as learning to love what you are doing by learning to do it all better.

Collectively the four houses involved are those linked to learning and wisdom. Developing and acquiring new knowledge and skills, learning to apply these and share your knowledge. These can be times when we change jobs more frequently, maybe have more than one. We could travel (either literally or figuratively) from A to B so often that we become bored, and continuously dream of getting as far away from it all as possible. What is the philosophers say: we only regret things we did not try. Some more food for thought.

Saturn will be in your solar 9 th until September 2007 (started mid-2005). It is a time for planning and a time for learning new skills by building upon those you have already acquired. In 2007, Saturn moves into your career house, which marks a time when true success is within your reach. Until then bide your time and perfect you talents, market your ideas and expand your horizons.

New Venus in the 2nd house

This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives. This one is personal for people who have planets at 1°Aquarius, 23-24°Capricorn and 16°. Your Sun is at 1°Aquarius if you were born the day after the Sun moved into Aquarius. Your Sun is at 23-24°Capricorn if you were born January 12-14 and at 16°Capricorn if you were born January 7.

During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.

Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me-a little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.

Venus in Capricorn is in the Money house (the 2nd house)-translates to a need to deal with money, material security, priorities, values and personal assessment of one's own worth, both figurative and literal. Anything found wanting, will be made better, by force or persuasion, in order for you to feel content and comfortable once again. Comfort and contentment are Venus concepts after all. Any source of discontentment did not arrive over night; you have likely just pushed it back away from your thoughts, promising yourself to address the issues one of these days. It doesn't really even need to be now, but this repeats at eight-year intervals, with a reminder every four years, although any issues will be more difficult to ignore now. After the period passes, you should find yourself in a more solid financial position with a stronger appreciation of self and with what your core values are. More about Venus in the annual write-up.

North Node in 5-11 shifts to 4-10

North Node will spend the first half of the year in the 5 th and 11 th house axis in your solar chart. This axis is linked to love received and given, to children and long-term aspirations. This is a natural relationship pairing, affecting areas of your life naturally linked to matters of the heart, i.e.; people we choose to have in our lives. Thus, some of your most intimate relationships with lovers, children and close friends are likely to change.

This place in the chart houses our children, whose affairs can become of concern for you, both positive and negative. The duality of life does extend beyond black and white. Your role may be to dole out practical sound advice for them in order to teach them lovingly to handle life's 'ups and downs'. Creativity lives here as well, it is the off spring of our mind-whether you have always desired to paint, write or create 'masterpieces'-now is the time to do something creative that gives you a sense of satisfaction. This is also the area of life where we need and desire to have fun and to PLAY. We need to balance all facets of our lives in order to feel content. This is the time to create and innovate your life. It's is wonderful energy for any artistic, creative pursuit. The definition of creative: anything that makes your heart sing.

The Nodes will shift into the axis of career vs. home since mid-2006 through the end of 2007. This axis is always a balancing act. You may be needed at home more than before and may need to 'neglect' that a little while you work toward new goals. Your job may have changed and you have solid goals you now wish to achieve in order to have security. Family members can be supportive during this time, but you need to make a concerted effort to spend quality time with them, as quantity is typically not an option during these times. This might also coincide with a time when you move away from your childhood home for the first time.

Mercury Rx in the houses of endings

The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation-the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?

The first Mercury period begins February 8 and ends April 12 (repeats in 2007) brings family matters into heightened focus. The 4th house represents our home, family and our roots. It represents our need for security in terms other than money-what is it you need in order to feel safe? The people of your home are those with whom you share an emotional bond, where your love is as close to unconditional as we can get. On a mundane level, this can be a period of renovations, moving or big shifts and changes within family. Children may leave the nest or move back in. This is the area of life where we look after those we consider family. Now it is time to stand on your own two feet and make practical choices in order to move forward in life. At this time, you may find yourself contemplating your view of yourself as opposed to how you think others see you. At the minimal, this is the time when you spend more time in family type activities than normal, maybe even the time you think of starting one.

July-August is the second Mercury period for the year. The stage for his performance is the 8 th house, which correlates to the area of life where we encounter commitment to others, inevitable issues of life-death, taxes and elimination. We change dramatically in the course of our lives in this area. The shifting cycles periodically bring this portion of our life into the forefront. This is the house of joint resources and property, inheritance and insurance. Let's look at the elimination process as an example. If your septic field has ceased to function, calling the tanker guys in monthly is a band aid solution, the existing field needs to be removed and a new one put in its place. The human body is the same; we can only apply band-aids for so long. When something has ceased to be of value or importance, it is no longer mutually inclusive-then it needs to be gutted and redone. Committed relationships fall here as well, time to renovate, rejuvenate and to stay completely honest and open. House of secrets perhaps, but some of these we cannot afford to keep. It is also the time to ensure that financial matters are in order, wills and insurance is up to snuff and that you continue to grow your shared assets and resources.

The October-November Mercury period affects the 12th house of your solar chart, which is a private and intimately personal area of life. This is the house where our baggage from the past has relatively free reign. This is where we face or ignore our fears, become intimately acquainted with our insecurities and often fail to recognize our innate strength-isolation, solace and respite from the hectic pace of our lives. The subconscious mind and our dream world belong here, and when the cycles activate this area of our lives we need to (re)address some of these issues. It is also the segment in the annual cycle that defines the process of ending a period so we can launch a new year starting with our birthday about a month away. The energy of Taurus is practical, no nonsense and filled with strength. The normal month long cycle does not apply this year nor next; now you need to do deeper level work on the issues described by the 12th segment of the chart, as listed or illustrated in this paragraph. Might as well get out the notebook in order to record your dreams, the next step, of course, is to get a dream dictionary or a book of symbols. Our collective set of symbols varies little between cultures, but the essence of symbols remains about the same. When we dream of cooking, we are creating sustenance, and a nurturing atmosphere. When we dream of the Ocean, it is to do with emotions. Learn about your own nature and coping mechanisms by paying attention to your dreams. For the heads up refer to the Mercury column for 2006.

Other notables

Pluto has been in your sign since 1996 and is now travelling through the final five degrees of the sign. If you were born December 14-21, your personal transformation period is in full swing. Note that Pluto moves very slowly, meaning that it only travels through about 5-6 signs in a lifetime. Pluto is an outer planet with the intent to transform and change us by teaching us to eliminate things and facets from our being and life in order to be more true to our inner essence.
