Virgo Horoscope 2006

Year Ahead

Virgo August 22 - September 22

Mars in Taurus 9th house and Fixed cross 3, 6, 9, 12

Mars has spent over four months in your 9th house; this began in July 2005 and continues until February 17. Mars is associated with our actions, energy, anger, motivation and drive. October through early December Mars was moving backwards, which made this energy feel even more personal. Your opinions and convictions have been undergoing alteration. Typically, during these times we are exposed to different views, cultures and beliefs so that we may gauge how our personal views fit in. Overall, this may not be a huge struggle for you, just another lesson in being flexible and prepared to change.

Collectively the four houses involved are those linked to learning and wisdom. Developing and acquiring new knowledge and skills, learning to apply these and share your knowledge. These can be times when we change jobs more frequently, maybe have more than one. We could travel (either literally or figuratively) from A to B so often that we become bored, and continuously dream of getting as far away from it all as possible. What is the philosophers say: we only regret things we did not try. Some more food for thought.

Saturn will be in your solar 12th until September 2007 (started mid-2005). It is an end of a cycle-time to take stock. We learn from life only once we acknowledge those lessons. Energy levels can fluctuate significantly during this time. On an advisory note, it is important to acknowledge your body, your well-being during this time (yes two years). Any chronic health issues cannot be let to go on any longer. Hospitals, institutions and isolation can factor in prominently in your life. It is the time to take note of those dreams, which can be rather prophetic. Juicy secrets may come your way; spreading these can cause a rather instantaneous backlash. We all have fears, doubts and irrational notions. We mostly try our best to push these away. These years are a perfect time to address these issues.

New Venus in the 5th house

This year begins with Venus retrograde in Capricorn. It has been so since Christmas Day and continues until February 3. As I mentioned in last year's column this repeats from 1997-98 and 1989-90. Each of the five Venus cycles is akin to the hundred-year sleep in fairy tales. When the cycle connects with our charts, we have profound revelations and changes in our lives. This one is personal for people who have planets at 1°Aquarius, 23-24°Capricorn and 16°. Your Sun is at 1°Aquarius if you were born the day after the Sun moved into Aquarius. Your Sun is at 23-24°Capricorn if you were born January 12-14 and at 16°Capricorn if you were born January 7.

During these Venus times, we have weeks on end to ponder whether we are happy and content with an area of our lives. For Capricorn the question is most personal; are you happy with who you have become, what you do and how you interact with the world.

Capricorn is a sign of tradition and likes it when things are done in a manner society expects. If you ask for something you need to finish off with please; when you get something you say thank you and if you made a 'blunder' you immediately say excuse me-a little simplified, but just to illustrate the point. Capricorn can be the scorekeeper of the Zodiac, merits and demerits each get a column. In terms of the pearly gates, we are told that Saint Peter will be on hand to check over our accomplishments and shortcomings.

Isn't it lo-ve-ly, as in the song? If not, well, it needs to be. This is the house of Venus' Joy. Are you truly happy? Are you giving and receiving love and appreciation? Not just in words but in shows of affection. This house represents love; the people in this area of the chart are those to whom we open our hearts. I have found that we do not give up on relationships easily with Venus retrograde, rather we work on making things better. This is the perfect time to fall in love again. Children also belong to this area, the time affords us the luxury of connecting with our children at a deeper level, and with our adult children, and it is learning to appreciate who they have become. The time comes when we have to accept that they are no longer like the little boy we cuddled or the little girl we consoled, but grown men and women with a unique set of priorities and values that we helped shape. The third component of this area of the chart is creativity, if you have been finding excuses as to why you cannot put pen to paper, brush to canvas, etc. then now is the time to start expressing your unique creative energies--no excuses. Creativity should be defined as what ever turns your crank or makes your heart sing. More about Venus...

North Node in 8-2 shifts to 7-1

Since the end of 2004 the North Node of the Moon has spent time in your 8th house, which represents the area of life where we encounter commitment to others, inevitable issues of life-death, taxes and elimination. The nodal axis is a point where the paths of the Sun and the Moon intersect-in English the Sun represents the ego and the will, the Moon our emotions and instincts. We change dramatically in the course of our lives and the shifting cycles periodically bring different facets of our life to the forefront. This is the house of joint resources and property, inheritance and insurance. Aries is the sign the North Node is in-what are you going to do about it all, is his question. His advice: just do it! Let's look at the elimination process as an example. If your septic field has ceased to function, calling the tanker guys in monthly is a band aid solution, the existing field needs to be removed and a new one put in its place. The human body is the same; we can only apply band-aids for so long. When something has ceased to be of value or importance, it is no longer mutually inclusive-then it needs to be gutted and redone. Committed relationships fall here as well, time to renovate, rejuvenate and to stay completely honest and open. House of secrets perhaps, but some of these we cannot afford to keep. It is also the time to ensure that financial matters are in order, wills and insurance is up to snuff and that you continue to grow your shared assets and resources. The Southern part of this axis is in the sign of Libra, meaning that you do need to get approval for your actions, but cannot rely on others to do your work for you.

Mid-2006 this axis shifts onto the relationship axis-we and me. The pointer is directed at others, so until the end of 2007, others come first. Relationships and relating is a two-way street, sometimes we need to put ourselves first and at other times not. This one is a NOT. In the course of this period, the other influences emphasize the importance of emotional attachment-we are learning about bonding. This could be one of the few indicators required, astrologically speaking, for changing your marital status.

Mercury Rx in your relationship houses

The Mercury cycles are in water and repeat from, 2000-01. We had the ideations of Air, the pragmatic work of Earth, the inspiration of Fire and now with Water, we get to look at how it makes us feel. No matter how great an idea, unless we feel emotionally comfortable with it, we cannot act on it. Our world functions on 'facts and figures', logic and practical action. Now we are asked to explore a side of our innate nature that does not seem to fit well into the equation-the function of Mercury to do deductive reasoning. Are you comfortable with how life is flowing in these areas? What is it we need to eliminate from our thinking, and daily routines?

The cycles tend to overlap and bring similar messages. The first of the three Mercury cycles takes place February 8 - April 12 in your relationship house. This is the place for the autumnal eclipses and the nodal axis mid-year. The all-encompassing word OTHERS is what astrology actually assigns to this 7th house of relationships. It is about partnerships at all levels not just about a marriage partner, but also our lawyer, accountant, grocer or business partner. What is interesting about our relationships is that from a metaphysical or philosophical point of view- people we encounter and associate with are a reflection of both our strengths and weaknesses. When we vehemently hate a characteristic in someone else, it is ultimately about ourselves and we have yet to own that traitor have failed to let that part of our nature go. Conversely, when we idolize a trait in someone else we have yet to claim that characteristic as our own. Others are a mirror, which reflects our own image back to us. That is a difficult concept to own, your shortcomings are my shortcomings. So now is the time to address these issues and your relationships with others in general-easy to put into words but sometimes tougher to live through. We might speculate that the potential for marriage, falling in love-madly, deeply and irrevocably-is possible. Regardless what of what the relationship issues are, these will emerge. There is a need to communicate with honesty and openness.

July-August Mercury spends extra time in your 11th house. You get to tackle groups and friends first in the course of this cycle. Now it is time to enter the big world, restart networking, and make connections with people who share your interests and passion for making a difference. It is time to meet new people, and to form long-lasting bonds. This represents the area of life, but we address our long-term goals, our deepest desires and aspirations- those five-year plans. The people associated with this house are friends and colleagues, and members of groups we belong to. This house represents the rewards we gain from our career or avocation, and this is where we determine our wishes and aspirations and choose to pursue these. New friendships are formed, and old ones may fade away or move to a more intimate level. Is it all worth it? Does it give you a sense of satisfaction? No praise in the world can make it feel worthwhile, if you personally don't feel so. This period may also prompt you to get involved with charitable organizations, to do for others less fortunate than yourself. If you choose to work through the issues, you'll find your life overall more rewarding with one or more of the concepts and with a few people.

October-November Mercury in Scorpio spends time in your 3rd house. The people represented by this sector of the chart are siblings, cousins, neighbours, and the people we chat with on a daily basis. The issues are communication, travel, transportation, gathering knowledge and daily schedules. You may find yourself without means of transportation, needing to connect with others in order to get where you need to be. There is a strong need to find common ground, and learn to accept each other through open communication-no excuses. As this is the knowledge gathering section of our lives - "Be curious always! For knowledge will not acquire you: you must acquire it." - Sudie Back. Perhaps you desire to learn something new. This describes a naturally busy environment, and it now became even busier. Before we can start anything, we do need to analyze it, research the pros and cons and then make an informed decision. It's a good time to mend any broken or strained relationships with sisters, brothers or similar individuals who used to be part of your daily life. Read more about Mercury for 2006.

Eclipses or other notables

The eclipses shift into the Virgo-Pisces axis this year. There are short write-ups in the annual column about these. Uranus has been in Pisces for a few years now, so relationships have been on your agenda for a bit now. Uranus is rebellious, freedom loving energy; that might actually describe the kind of people you are meeting these days. Read more about Uranus in Pisces.
