Aries Relationships

Aries March 21 to April 19

Ruler: Mars Colour: Red Body: Head and face, upper jaw Element: Fire

Key: I AM Keyword: ACTION Element: Fire

ariesThere are three fire signs in the Zodiac (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius). Fire signs are action oriented, encouraging and inspired, and have an energetic "can do" approach to life. They have an inherent need to protect themselves from the inactivity, indifference or apathy these fiery individuals don't want to sit there and think about, wait to see how they feel nor do they like plodding through tedious steps to get there let's just do it is almost their motto.

Fire sign is like a short distance sprinter quick off the mark, there in no time and energy temporarily all spent. We hear this about Aries but all fire signs share this mode of operation. Leos may have more stamina and Sagittarius may be more happy go lucky about it, but like Aries they burn fast and furious, and keep boredom away.

Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how it can feed our needs.

Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the fire signs has a different approach and as individuals we have each of these three fire signs in our make influencing three or more areas of our lives. (To identify the areas we need to know the particulars of birth such as the date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. Next we need to look at planets and the aspects that are formed. We also look at the houses, which represent areas of life, and how these are influenced by the zodiacal sign on the cusp of the house as well how the planet which rules the particular house is positioned.)

Aries is ...

Aries is the first of the fire signs spontaneous and can, of course, be hotheaded. Aries is an independent sort, the opposite of Libra, which is a relationship sign. Aries can bore easily because their mode of operation is to start and investigate NEW things. This energy is readily stimulated to spring into action sometimes the follow through with projects and undertakings is lacking. Their mode of operation is, after all, to initiate and to convince us to go along, but they really do want someone else take care of those nitty-gritty details, take that great idea and build upon it, because by then the Aries is onto newer, greener pastures, which have caught his/her fancy. This can be true about relationships as well - you need to stay interesting and somewhat a challenge.

Independent signs, and there are more than one, have a harder time committing to a relationship, especially if their freedom is somehow threatened. Aries can be very exciting energy to be around. They like to offer you fresh insights, experiences, and dare you to try something new at least once, which can be the Aries threshold or limit. This bold sign can fall in love quickly and just as quickly fall out. This is not to say that an Aries cannot form committed relationships, but remember what I stated in the preamble, none of us are just one thing. You give the Aries a few strong, Taurus placements and you already have a more domesticated animal. Give the Aries a few Pisces planets and you may have a romantic on your hands with a caring, sensitive side that is oh so endearing. With Aries you also need to remember that they have relatively short memories when it comes to certain things. Did you get into a heated argument with an Aries, which sent you sulking for days? You know, as soon as the "storm" was over the Aries forgot all about it. Reminding them of what they said or did is a waste of breath. The only response you are likely to elicit is a blank stare, they truly do not recall.

Anything that took place less than a moment ago, and was quickly dealt with becomes history. Bringing up history is not a good idea with an Aries, the only one who gets aggravated here is the person bringing up the past. Aries deals with the now and the future.

All signs have a duality about them - the picture above is of a ram the symbol of Aries, but the other side is the sheep. The Aries can easily be a bit of both, not necessarily all the time.

Mode: Cardinal

Cardinal signs are about action and initiating. Aries is the fiery Cardinal sign that is known as the pioneer of the zodiac. It likes to start new ventures, investigate new opportunities and get the ball rolling, it is not as adept at follow through, as boredom sets in when it comes to nitty-gritty details. Cancer is linked to home, mother and our subjective view of ourselves. Cancer is the Summer solstice sign, and coincides with Holiday time, retreating from our mundane existence to recharge for the long winter months. In our culture it is the time we spend more time with our families.

Big nations like the US and Canada are Cancer nations, the rights of individuals (the members of the country) are paramount. Libra is the third Cardinal sign representing the air element, and Sun's ingress into Libra happens with the autumnal equinox where the daylight and night are balanced. It marks the start of fall or autumn in the northern hemisphere. The harvest is in and it is time to make something with all that has been grown and stored. Capricorn starts with the winter solstice, which marks the time when the day and night are equal length and daylight begins to increase. In earlier times the return of the light was celebrated at this time. After the Summer solstice the days grow shorter. All of the cardinal signs begin something new, a new season. In a flat chart they have the prime real estate of houses, the angular ones that signify self, family, marriage and career the main themes in life.

You need to be ready to move, to go and not look back when dating an Aries. That Nike commercial "Just Do it" describes Aries, and if you want to be with them you need to do it as well do you like cliff jumping, parachuting? Are you up trying the new? Can you keep up the sprint pace? Can you fill in the gaps in their speech patterns that leave out words and sentences? Do you like the spur of the moment? Then pick an Aries personality.

Aries/Aries

Similarity is the main theme in this relationship. The relationship is exciting, with lots of ups and downs, both quickly form a part of history. Both of you are obviously under the auspices of the same element, namely Fire. The element of fire is inspired, energetic, enthusiastic, and all encompassing. The element of fire can be impulsive, reckless, and exhaustive. Onto new things, doing things together is the key. Aries is THE action sign, ruled by Mars, which is about doing. According to statistical studies an intimate relationship with someone who is born with 60 days of your own birth date is the most common match. In addition to the solar energy there are typically connections between the inner planets, such as Mercury needed for communication and Venus the LOVE planet. If you like constant change, movement and love trying new things this relationship is bliss. You most likely also need to like a good fight, and be quick to forgive and forget. The forgiving part can sometimes be tough for an Aries, under that fa‡ade many an Aries is quite sensitive, and can take things too personally. Each one of us is the centre of our own universe; Aries can be a selfish or self-absorbed sign.

When we are in any kind of relationship with someone who shares a common astrological sign connection we were attracted to this relationship because we like being with people with whom we share an instant bond of feeling, thinking or acting alike. No two people are identical in their astrological make up, but with sharing the same sun sign you are likely to have more things in common than not. It is easier to be yourself with someone who is like you to begin with, less ground to cover in getting to know one another and more time to discover new things about life itself together. More time for adventures, games and skydiving (as an example) and less time needed to analyze the person you are with and want to be with. You are enjoying life with someone who is like you and may learn how to like yourself better in the process - this relationship is not easy if you aren't comfortable with yourself.

Aries/Taurus

Camaraderie is the main theme in this relationship. Note that both of these zodiacal creatures have horns. A ram ready for battle will buck you until you move. A bull will lunge toward you, push you stubbornly until the object of attention moves. Chances are that the two of you share common traits as each is likely to have planets in the other's sign, and because of this you tend to get along on some fronts. Aries is the doer and Taurus is the slow doer, doesn't like to be nudged, pushed nor bucked, arguments can be wearisome, but boredom seldom enters this relationship. The Taurus person can temper the impulsiveness of the Aries, and the Aries can add some spontaneity to the Taurus person's approach. You each may have to work on adjusting to make this relationship move smoothly. All successful relationships are that way because the two people involved are willing to work at making it a success. When we choose to be involved with a person who has the sign on either side of ours, we are drawn to the similarities in the way we grew up, our home lives, our education and our interests.

Aries is drawn to the values, priorities and attitude toward money and possessions held by the Taurus. The Taurus person in this relationship is drawn to something less readily identifiable, we sometimes call these karmic bonds but sometimes it simply feels that the Aries person appreciates the inner workings of the Taurus, and that can feel extremely comforting, despite the fact that this also presents challenges. Chances are that both of you feel comfortable and secure in this relationship because the basic nature of the relationship is comfort - you each know what you have in your partner, intimately. It is an energy you grew up with and it feels safe.

This might not be the relationship for you if your early environment (prior to dating) was not a good one in your view, because it will bring those issues to the forefront, and in life we have to deal with these issues, whether we like it or not. It's often either co-operate with life or life will force-feed you.

Aries/Gemini

Communication is the main theme in this relationship. We have a talker-doer combo and there is very little room for boredom in this match. The conflicts may arise from the fact that the Aries wants to just do it - but the Gemini will insist on discussing it first, so sometimes one person is out doing and the other is discussing it with friends first. Both are active signs, one is more active and the other more intellectual. This can be an excellent combination for a long lasting friendship even if the romantic part of the relationship comes to an end. Both Aries and Gemini share a curiosity toward learning and trying out new things, and both share a relatively short attention span to sticking to something they already know, so there can be many adventures along the way. Lively debates and arguments, the Aries is quick to forget what these were, the Gemini is likely bring things up for more discussion.

This is a sibling kind of relationship where you get along most of the time, but once in a while the rivalry surfaces. Aries is the fire sign and Gemini is an air sign. If we look at what air does to a fire - the flames shoot higher, the fire can grow bigger, you get the drift - the Gemini can really play with the emotions and responses of the Aries individual. Apply fire to air and we get hot air, fire can also consume the oxygen out of the air - that's similar to the impact the Aries can have on the Gemini - the Aries can really get the Gemini going and can exhaust the Gemini energy.

When we are drawn to an individual whose zodiacal sign is the 2nd one from ours we are looking for a sibling, cousin type of familiar relationship. An Aries would be attracted to the communication and camaraderie aspect of his/her Gemini partner. The Gemini would be attracted to the friendship without too many strings attached, thus affording the Gemini with the luxury of having private friends outside the relationship as well. In addition the Gemini might also be attracted to the fact that through his/her Aries partner the Gemini will be exposed to new friends, groups and ideologies with a focus.

Aries/Cancer

The theme in this relationship is growth. Here two strong leader type signs meet the Aries focus is on the self and the Cancer focus is on the family unit and roots. The element of fire meets the element of water water can douse the fire and the fire can create steam for the water. These two signs form a friction aspect this makes for an intense attraction. Both people have to be strong in who they are as individuals in this relationship, as you will both grow and change through it. The Aries will learn about the importance of family in a broader sense than just the nuclear family maybe in part to help understand his/her own roots. For the Aries the Cancer individual represents emotional support and safety. The Cancer will become more career/accomplishment oriented through this relationship.

The "square" relationships [go around the wheel and skip two signs to find your square relations] are often those with a lot of chemistry and most sexually charged. These are challenging relationships and not typically classified as good choices. Typically our hormones appear to be in charge when we pick our partners, we always state that love is blind. We don't all have the same motivation when we pick a partner. Even with the friction in this relationship, it always stays fresh and exciting.

The Aries is inspired, and focused on doing things with very little time or patience for holding onto grudges. The hot-headed Aries can quickly start an argument, blow up and then forget all about it. The Cancer may have a harder time forgetting as their feelings may have been hurt or bruised by the onslaught, if you are the Cancer realize that the Aries has forgotten all about it, it is out of their system, do you want to keep it in yours? It's not to say that Aries is forgive and forget they are the forget. Cancer is more likely to forgive but cannot forget. This requires compromise and adjustment for both partners in this, at times stormy, relationship.

When we are drawn to an individual whose zodiacal sign is the 4th from ours (count yours as one and head clockwise - 4 and 8) we are looking for someone who repeats familial family patterns, reminds us of a parent or the parents' relationship and makes us feel comfortable and at "home". We are looking for support in accomplishing what we need to do in life, someone who is as solid as a rock.

Aries/Leo

The two signs share the element of fire. The aspect that pairs these two is a trine (120 ), which is the most harmonious of all, making the connection between the two energies effortless. The theme of this relationship is stimulation. This is one of those classically good relationship combinations. (Caution: Remember we are eyeing the relationship through a peephole when using only one known qualifier.) However, in a typical situation we would also have several of the inner planets in a harmonious combo. For an Aries Leo represents a 5th house relationship. In the 5th we have romance, creativity and it's the house of PLAY. Leo would motivate the Aries to do even bigger and greater things. For Leo Aries brings in a 9th house perspective. In the 9th we have philosophy, higher learning and things foreign. The Leo in this pairing would broaden his/her horizons, get perspective and be exposed to subjects and lands he/she might not otherwise explore.

Each relationship needs a spark of friction, to keep life interesting. The risk here is to fall into a comfortable rut, and ignore seeking exhilarating side of life. When we are drawn to someone who shares our elemental make up, we are generally looking for kinship. We are looking for someone who understands our way of doing and thinking. The fact that our modes are different typically helps strengthen us where we are weak. There is less criticism in the relationship, how can you reasonably chastise someone who shares so many traits with you?

Enthusiasm for life is one of the shared traits. Both of you like to have fun and play. Aries is the spark that ignites and Leo has the stamina to keep the flame burning. If what you seek in a relationship are familiarity, excitement and going out on dates, then someone who shares your element is what might meet those needs. Are you drawn to someone who you feel will support your goals without reproach? Leo and Aries together form a buoyant, exciting and charismatic duo.

Aries/Virgo

The theme for this relationship is constant adjustment. This is a challenging pairing that is assured to bring growth. From the solar (Sun) perspective these two signs have very little in common. This relationship does not fall under the category of opposites attract either, each person is unique, has distinct differences and strengths. Aries is action oriented where Virgo is logical and rational preferring to plan a prudent course of action before actually doing anything. Virgo can help keep the Aries focused and help avert problems of acting in haste. The Aries can help the Virgo move ahead and not to be too cautious. This can be a very supportive relationship provided both of you can agree to disagree, and have an open mind about life. Offer not criticism, cherish the fact that the other is helping you be better, more grounded and helping round off your rough edges. Virgo may be refined, but this did not just happen - an irritation of a grain of sand is what grows into a pearl inside an oyster.

You need to embrace the change and adjustment, this relationship will make each one of you a stronger individual and one that has learned to know not only the other but himself/herself better. The excitement in this relationship is the fact that you are growing together, you are becoming both self-aware and aware of the relationship. You need to accept the things you cannot change and accept that you can truly only change yourself and your attitude.

All relationships were made in heaven, so to speak, but they are lived and experienced here on Earth. Sometimes we are not ready for challenging relationships such as this combination of Fire and Earth when we are young, but as we mature our relationship needs can change. It takes strength to discover yourself while also working on a relationship. It is totally different if you read about how you are or ought to be, but living it is a whole new ball-game.

Aries/Libra

Opposites attract is the theme for polarity relationships, this one of the complementary pairings in the zodiac. When theorizing about this we often revert to philosophy, and talk about the positive and negative, or complementary colours such as purple and orange, or black and white, dark and light, night and day. Neither can exist without the presence of the other. Opposite energies can bring out sides in each one of you that otherwise be unexplored. For example, Libra is a social sign with the weakness of indecision and Aries is quick to decide and doesn't pay that much attention to social pleasantries, as long as he gets to do what he wants all is fine. Libra would temper the Aries impatience and show them that sometimes you get more bees with honey ... and vice a versa the Aries would help Libra take action, and show the Libra that sometimes you do not need to be so accommodating that your own needs do not get met.

Naturally opposing energies also have a disposition for a good fight. Libra is an excellent moderator but also very capable of stirring this up, and can really ignite the short fuse on a typical Aries. It is equally easy to get a Libra going just threaten the harmony and balance they have created. The problem arises when it is not understood that the Aries is quick to forget while the Libra will likely mull over the nuances in the tone of voice. Remember they are they experts at finding the perfect word for every occasion.

At times it is like looking in the mirror, and other times you see a reflection of your own shadow side, wanting to introduce you to the other side of you, the one you'd like to ignore. In these types of relationships you need to be prepared to learn to know the other and learn to know yourself better. Are you ready to have a complementary relationship then pick the sign opposite your own.

Aries/Pisces

Neighbourly Camaraderie is the theme in this relationship. Chances are that the two of you share common traits as each is likely to have planets in the other's sign, and because of this you tend to get along on some fronts. When we choose to be involved with a person who has the sign on either side of ours, we are drawn to the similarities in the way we grew up, our home lives, our education and our interests. Aries brings values, money and the importance of possessions to the forefront from the Pisces person's perspective. The need to have similar values is strong. For the Aries person there may be a strong Karmic or destined connection, this was meant to be, but adjustment is required to come to terms with the differences in the elemental make-up. Water and fire is certainly an interesting combination, inspiration meets meditation, dreaminess meets action.

As we mature we change in our attitude. In astrology the maturation process is partially identified with progressions, in short what happens is that natal planets inch forward and by our 30th birthday or sooner the inner planets (Sun, Venus, Mercury) have moved to the next sign. In English - the Pisces has matured into an Aries for a period of 30 years. So Pisces is learning a new way of doing and being from the Aries individual. The Aries individual may experience past and some sub-conscious themes sparked by the Pisces partner. Not every Aries person is comfortable with having to open up those hidden areas of their inner workings to a partner, but those who are will gain new perspective on life and on themselves. We are here on Earth to learn and to grow as human beings, and when you are lucky enough to be partnered with someone caring and typically non-judgmental life even with its uncertainties may feel quite blissful.
