There are three water signs in the Zodiac (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces). Water signs are private and guarded, and approach life from an emotional stance. They have an inherent need to protect themselves from the unfamiliar, unknown or untested. It tends to take longer to get to an individual whose mode of operation is emotional based on sensing their environment. To emote is to feel, and sometimes feelings are not rational as they are based on past experiences, past responses and reactions. We cannot rationalize emotions and we cannot tell someone what is the correct emotion to feel; nor can we state that there is a correct emotional response to something we see, hear or experience.

It is no good pushing this elemental into anything if it does not feel right to them. Cancer is a little timid, Scorpio is not that trusting and Pisces is so acutely tuned into the unseen that I won't even contemplate a "fit-for-all-word". Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how it can feed our needs.

Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the water signs has a different take and as individuals we have each of these three water signs in our make influencing three or more areas of our lives. Cancer is:

Cancer is the first of the water signs. Cancer is the nurturer. Caring for others comes naturally. This sign typifies the homebody. Cancer people are easiest to recognize when they appear to have a moon face. Cancer is ruled by the Moon, which is the fastest moving planet moving through the zodiac once every 28« days. It really is a star, a dying one at that, making its journey into night more than metaphorical. If we look at our horizon all 12 astrological signs rise above it as earth turns in its daily revolution. Each sign takes approximately 2 hours to glide by. The astrological is based on our revolving through the signs and is a kind of clock. Tick tock, the mood changes. Our lunar types, i.e. Cancer, are said to change their mood once every two hours. Cancer is a "moody" sign, when she or he feels unsafe, retreat follows. It takes time to learn to know a Cancer, they are sensitive and need their privacy respected. These changing tides can be perceived as personally moody but on the other end of the spectrum this is someone who is able to perceive the moods and needs of others with incredible ease. The emotional water types are often wise and mature beyond their years.Cancer is a romantic sign with strong ties to family and roots, and protective of family and extended family. They want to bond emotionally, merely expressing in words how you feel is not enough for this sensitive sign. You have to let them feel your emotions. Before they are ready to open up to you, you will need to open up to them. With these individuals we get reflection, memories and protection. They sense our moods and needs, and when they feel secure they will respond to our moods and meet our needs.As natural and clever caretakers, the action part of this cardinal sign can express as over protective of family, purse strings, household or business management. They work hard to control schedules, menus and routines to make life run more smoothly or to their liking.

Cardinal signs are about action and initiating. Aries is the fiery Cardinal sign that is known as the pioneer of the zodiac. It likes to start new ventures, investigate new opportunities and get the ball rolling, it is not as adept at follow through, as boredom sets in when it comes to nitty-gritty details. Cancer is linked to home, mother and our subjective view of ourselves. Cancer is the Summer solstice sign, and coincides with Holiday time, retreating from our mundane existence to recharge for the long winter months. In our culture it is the time we spend more time with our families. Big nations like the US and Canada are Cancer nations, the rights of individuals (the members of the country) are paramount. Libra is the third Cardinal sign representing the air element, and Sun's ingress into Libra happens with the autumnal equinox where the daylight and night are balanced. It marks the start of fall or autumn in the northern hemisphere.

The harvest is in and it is time to make something with all that has been grown and stored. Capricorn starts with the winter solstice, which marks the time when the day and night are equal length and daylight begins to increase. In earlier times the return of the light was celebrated at this time. After the Summer solstice the days grow shorter. All of the cardinal signs begin something new, a new season. In a flat chart they have the prime real estate of houses, the angular ones that signify self, family, marriage and career the main themes in life.

Cancer is the sign we associate with mother and sometimes the Cancer individual seeks that type of unconditional commitment they received from mother, sometimes they mother you, or smother you to fulfill their security needs or safe keep the family. Laughter quickly changes to tears, and back to giggles again. Do you need someone to know you so well that they can love you with all your flaws and shortcomings as well as appreciate all the terrific qualities you have - perhaps you are ready to fall in love with a Cancer.
