Capricorn Relationships

December 22 to January 20

Ruler: Saturn Body: Knees, hair, joints, bones Element: Earth

Key phrase: I use Keyword: Ambition

There are three earth signs in the Zodiac (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn). Earth signs are sensible and dependable, and approach life from a practical perspective. They have an inherent need to order and organize their world to protect themselves from unforeseen circumstances, behaviour and hazards. Sensibilities rule over emotions, earth signs are certainly in tune with the feel of things and feelings, but these may be based more on the actual than an emotional response. The sense of touch is an earthy feeling mechanism.

Earth signs are steady more suited for the marathon, energy is conserved and actions contemplated and considered before taken. Taurus likes to go at a steady pace, and cannot be pushed into action until he/she is good and ready. Virgo likes to take the thinking and planning route before springing into action, and Capricorn takes the slow and well-planned action, time is of no consequence in the grand scheme of things.

Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how it can feed our needs.

Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the earth signs has a different approach and as individuals we have each of these three earth signs in our make up influencing three or more areas of our lives. (To identify the areas we need to know the particulars of birth such as the date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. Next we need to look at planets and the aspects that are formed. We also look at the houses, which represent areas of life, and how these are influenced by the zodiacal sign on the cusp of the house as well how the planet which rules the particular house is positioned.)

Capricorn is ...

Capricorn is the 4th Cardinal sign and the last of the earth signs. Capricorn individuals are born old and get younger with age, not literally but in attitude, and oddly enough sometimes in appearance. All earth signs share the common trait of being practical and having a healthy endowment of common sense. Planet Saturn, which rules Capricorn, is about time, responsibility and boundaries. All of these words do describe Capricorn individuals, who are prepared to take the time to achieve their goals, they do not mind the long, uphill road as they are willing to plod forward on step or one rung of the proverbial ladder at a time. In short they are prepared to wait and see what happens, let life take its course, and to meet challenges unflinchingly.

This is a very responsible sign, and individuals with strong Capricorn elements in their charts, do take life and their obligations seriously. When it comes to those boundaries, Capricorn tends to be the one who puts up barricades or walls around, and will not open the gate to let others in until he feels he can trust those he welcomes in. As time goes by, they love you more not less.

These sensible individuals have all the time in the world to get to the end goal, it's about the journey as much as it is about the goal. That is not to say that this is not a goal-oriented sign, because it is, Capricorn likes to plan ahead and prepare for all eventualities just like a scout. They don't believe in luck but hard work, after all luck is when opportunity meets with preparation. And Capricorn will be prepared.

Here is another student of the Zodiac, from the school of hard knocks or the School of Life, depending on your take. Once learned it is known and done to perfection, no half way measures here. It may take a little longer, but what's a decade against the backdrop of life. Capricorn is loyal as long as his/her principles are not compromised. This is the most traditional of the signs, marriage and commitment are issues taken seriously. This is also a sign like Scorpio who likes to be in control of his destiny, and preferably also strongly coax those around him/her about how they ought to approach their goals in life.

Modality - Cardinal

There are three modes or modalities astrology uses to categorize signs. There are four cardinal signs, these mark the solstices at summer and winter, and the equinoxes in the autumn and in the spring. Each of these starts a new season at the equinoxes the day and night equal each other. Between spring equinox and the summer solstice the day light hours begin to outnumber the night hours, and after the summer solstice the days keep getting shorter. At the autumn equinox the nights start getting longer and the days shorter, and after the winter solstice the days begin to grow longer. This is perhaps some of the logic as to why these are the action signs they have an impact on our daily lives by starting a new cycle.

Cardinal signs are about action and initiating. Aries is the fiery Cardinal sign that is known as the pioneer of the zodiac. It likes to start new ventures, investigate new opportunities and get the ball rolling, it is not as adept at follow through, as boredom sets in when it comes to nitty-gritty details.

Cancer is linked to home, mother and our subjective view of ourselves. Cancer is the Summer solstice sign, and coincides with Holiday time, retreating from our mundane existence to recharge for the long winter months. In our culture it is the time we spend more time with our families. Big nations like the US and Canada are Cancer nations, the rights of individuals (the members of the country) are paramount. Libra is the third Cardinal sign representing the air element, and Sun's ingress into Libra happens with the autumnal equinox where the daylight and night are balanced. It marks the start of fall or autumn in the northern hemisphere. The harvest is in and it is time to make something with all that has been grown and stored. Capricorn starts with the winter solstice, which marks the time when the day and night are equal length and daylight begins to increase. In earlier times the return of the light was celebrated at this time. After the Summer solstice the days grow shorter. All of the cardinal signs begin something new, a new season. In a flat chart they have the prime real estate of houses, the angular ones that signify self, family, marriage and career the main themes in life.

Compassionate with wisdom beyond their years, and a wonderful partner for life. Willing to take the time to make the relationship and all its aspects perfect. Practice makes perfect and when you have someone who is willing to practice.
