Libra Relationships

Ruler:Venus Body:Kidneys, adrenals, skin ureters Element:Air

Key phrase: I balance Keywords: Justice, Harmony

scalesThere are three air signs in the Zodiac (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius). Air signs are intellectually oriented and communicative, and approach life from a mental or logical stance. They have an inherent need to protect themselves from the irrational, illogical or incomprehensive should they experience something along the lines then the need to rationalize arises and there will be questions. Air signs are social creatures and like to discover facts and points of curiosity value with people.

If you can categorize and make sense of it with logic, then surely emotions can be categorized as well or at least the air signs will give it a rational effort. If each individual had each element in balance we'd strike a healthy distribution of emotion, logic, practicality and inspired action, however, all of us are unique and at best we all have an imbalance somewhere.

Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how it can feed our needs.

Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the air signs has a different approach and as individuals we have each of these three air signs in our make influencing three or more areas of our lives. (To identify the areas we need to know the particulars of birth such as the date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. Next we need to look at planets and the aspects that are formed. We also look at the houses, which represent areas of life, and how these are influenced by the zodiacal sign on the cusp of the house as well how the planet which rules the particular house is positioned.)

Libra is ...

This is the sign of balance and harmony - scales is the symbol used for this dual sign. Keeping everything nice, pleasant and harmonious is vital to them. This sign does, however, like to debate, it is an intellectual sign after all. This is the sign that came up with the moderator to ensure that it doesn't escalate into an argument, something Libra abhors. Libra makes an excellent arbitrator, moderator and mediator as they live with balance, which also means weighing both sides of an equation and seeing both points of view as valid. Harmony is something they like to have and to cultivate.

Libra is Venus ruled just like Taurus is, but there are significant differences in addition to the similarities. Libra likes beauty in their environment and anything they would like to own or have, they need to truly see the beauty in their partner as well. Beauty does not always need to have a practical application, visual pleasure is equally important. Libra is typically not that quick to get into relationships because they are looking for that someone to meet a lot of criteria. Instant balance and harmony is difficult to come by, this is a relationship sign that does not limit the to just one on one relationships, but likes people period.

In addition to being a sign associated with love, the aesthetics of it all, Libra is a communication sign, and words have a lot of weight. They pick the appropriate word to express how they feel or see things. You know all those words: visually challenged, differently-abled, physically challenged, etc Libra statements. Libra likes debates, because those are intellectually stimulating, however, do not engage your Libra partner in a fight or an argument, they absolutely detest conflict type situations, and are likely to just walk away until you come to your senses. Yet, as luck would have it they often attract aggressive, strong-minded individuals as partners; life's funny like that.

Mode: Cardinal

There are three modes or modalities astrology uses to categorize signs. There are four cardinal signs, these mark the solstices at summer and winter, and the equinoxes in the autumn and in the spring. Each of these starts a new season at the equinoxes the day and night equal each other. Between spring equinox and the summer solstice the day light hours begin to outnumber the night hours, and after the summer solstice the days keep getting shorter. At the autumn equinox the nights start getting longer and the days shorter, and after the winter solstice the days begin to grow longer. This is perhaps some of the logic as to why these are the action signs they have an impact on our daily lives by starting a new cycle. Cardinal signs are about action and initiating. Aries is the fiery Cardinal sign that is known as the pioneer of the zodiac. It likes to start new ventures, investigate new opportunities and get the ball rolling, it is not as adept at follow through, as boredom sets in when it comes to nitty-gritty details. Cancer is linked to home, mother and our subjective view of ourselves. Cancer is the Summer solstice sign, and coincides with Holiday time, retreating from our mundane existence to recharge for the long winter months. In our culture it is the time we spend more time with our families. Big nations like the US and Canada are Cancer nations, the rights of individuals (the members of the country) are paramount. Libra is the third Cardinal sign representing the air element, and Sun's ingress into Libra happens with the autumnal equinox where the daylight and night are balanced. It marks the start of fall or autumn in the northern hemisphere. The harvest is in and it is time to make something with all that has been grown and stored. Capricorn starts with the winter solstice, which marks the time when the day and night are equal length and daylight begins to increase. In earlier times the return of the light was celebrated at this time. After the Summer solstice the days grow shorter. All of the cardinal signs begin something new, a new season. In a flat chart they have the prime real estate of houses, the angular ones that signify self, family, marriage and career the main themes in life.

One of the more endearing or frustrating (depending on your outlook) quirks in a Libra individual is their periodic need to stir up things, just to get a reaction - they will not participate in the altercation. Overall, however, they are nice and charming. Libra likes his/her environment colour coordinated and pleasant, they do not cope with a discordant environment or physical appearance (i.e. loud clothes) well. Who gets along best with this mostly charming person?

The combinations of signs are work in progress, and will be posted when I have written them. Relationship reports are available for ordering on-line, click here.
