fishes There are three water signs in the Zodiac (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces). Water signs are private and guarded, and approach life from an emotional stance. They have an inherent need to protect themselves from the unfamiliar, unknown or untested. It tends to take longer to get to an individual whose mode of operation is emotional based on sensing their environment. To emote is to feel, and sometimes feelings are not rational as they are based on past experiences, past responses and reactions. We cannot rationalize emotions and we cannot tell someone what is the correct emotion to feel; nor can we state that there is a correct emotional response to something we see, hear or experience.

It is no good pushing this elemental into anything if it does not feel right to them. Cancer is a little timid, Scorpio is not that trusting and Pisces is so acutely tuned into the unseen that I won't even contemplate a "it-for-all-word".

Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how it can feed our needs.

Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the water signs has a different take and as individuals we have each of these three water signs in our make influencing three or more areas of our lives. (To identify the areas we need to know the particulars of birth such as the date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. Next we need to look at planets and the aspects that are formed. We also look at the houses, which represent areas of life, and how these are influenced by the zodiacal sign on the cusp of the house as well how the planet which rules the particular house is positioned.)

Pisces is ...

Pisces is a strong relationship sign, they need others to need them. These are empathetic, caring and sensitive partners with an inner urge to save you. Virgo its polar opposite wants to make you better, but Pisces is there to rescue you. This is the most vulnerable sign of the zodiac, their feelings are very readily bruised, treat them with kindness because that is how they will always treat you. Water signs mature young, and from early on you will see Pisces individuals in relationships.

Leo may be the one who throws his jacket on the ground so your feet won't get wet - a grand gesture. Pisces is the one who takes the shirt off his back to keep you warm - a compassionate, caring offering. Is there something you need or someone in need, get the Pisces individual to go to the rescue.

Do you like romance and daydreaming? Looking for a travel companion to the deep, mysterious side of human life - look no further in Pisces you have found one. Before we go lumping all Pisces into this category, there is also the very practical, goal oriented kind of Pisces, who hankers after the world of business rather than the world of romance. Remember what I stated in the preamble, none of us are just one element or sign, we are more complex, and this is one of the most complex of signs. This is the mutable water sign, adaptable to change, and going with the flow.

Jupiter rules Pisces in traditional astrology and some of the typical characteristics stem from that connection. Pisces is optimistic in a nebulous kind of fashion, they often have an incredible sense of humour like the other Jupiter ruled sign, Sagittarius. Pisces can be almost a preachy as well, in its effort to save you from yourself and from the big, bad world.

The sign of the martyr or savior, a deep and quiet sign, who needs solitude more than most. I think that Pisces takes excursions into the world rather than actively lives in it. Imagine walking through the busy supermarket and sensing everyone's emotions - how long could you take it? That is life for many a Pisces, but then on the same token how would you like a life partner who senses your feelings, needs and desires before you even have a chance to verbalize them? Now that could be heaven in itself, someone, who not only knows what you need but is willing to provide that for you.

Mutable means changeable. The three signs in this category are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. Like the willow tree they will bend but won't break. They have the easiest time adapting to change and even welcoming adjustments, the most flexible of the zodiacal signs. That does not translate to weak by the way. Gemini is the fact gatherer and student of the Zodiac and when new information is brought in that indicates a mid-course adjustment is in order the Gemini is all for it. Spring is full in Gemini, the birds return from warmer lands and the nature is full of life. Virgo analyzes facts, figures and information and learns new ways of doing things, and voila let's just change a little and life will run more smoothly. Virgo harvests the fruits of summer, and perhaps explains the fact that we astrologers refer to Virgo as the caretaker, once harvested the produce of course has to be processed and stored so that we may eat nature's products during the winter months when the earth is dormant. Sagittarius is exposure to foreign or new people and things and with more knowledge adaptation is what is needed. It is darkest before dawn, or the winter solstice. During this time we prepare to celebrate the return of the light. In earlier days when outdoor activity was limited due to lack of light, Sagittarius marked this time frame, when withdrawn from activity people tend to draw within, and from within springs wonderful wisdom. This is a deep sign indeed, not just the court jester or Santa Claus. Pisces absorbs new experiences and feelings out of his/her environment and with the changing tides welcomes a new outlook or approach. The Spring is around the corner; the earth is preparing for renewal and a new cycle. Wherever I have lived this has been the time of the most variance in weather from brilliant winter·s days to torrential down pours and mudslides. With Pisces in nature and Pisces in a person you get a broad spectrum.

The challenge with dating or marrying a Pisces might be dealing with the times when he/she is feeling that the world is against him/her. During the times when the Pisces feels acutely that he is going against the wind. The kind and caring Pisces falls under the rulership of Neptune in modern astrology, Neptune is the planet of illusion, things nebulous and of drugs. Neptune is also about enlightenment and caring for the needy. Pisces is capable of sliding along that spectrum being disillusioned or enlightened depending on the phase of the Moon, yes - this sign is also tuned to the tides. So who could live with this compassionate sign who is in tune with your needs?
