I recently had the privilege of presenting a talk on astrology and psychology to 150 grade 12 psychology students, outside the scope of the talk many were interested in relationships, my girlfriend is and I am how do we get along? I promised to write something on my website about relationships partly to illustrate the fact that each one of us can get along with any sign, and some of those relationships typically classified as the worst match, do not need to be one. So hereis the start of it ...
Each zodiacal sign brings a different quality to any relationship, Virgo typically gets along great with other earth signs (Taurus and Capricorn) has good communication with Scorpio and Cancer. I will address the approach to relationships for each zodiacal sign (energy) and how this energy relates to other zodiacal sign energy. You could choose to read the previous sentence as sun sign, however, the little lead on to the "good" stuff helps describe how it really works. Astrology does not dictate what kind of relationship we should have it describes our attitude toward one, and can help understand the different kinds of relationships we are likely to have. There are no totally good or totally bad relationships; they are simply each unique and different. Some are easy and some more of a challenge and as life is about growth and change, the challenging ones bring us the most of that growth and change.
None of us is completely typical of any one zodiacal sign. Each one of us has some quality typical of each and every zodiacal sign. We have all become accustomed to the division set out by sun sign columns. When it comes to relationships the male and female planets Mars and Venus have a lot to say, i.e. their energies represent the actions, mode of operation and desires and needs respectively. Most relationships have an emotional component of some kind. This is the Moon's domain. In most relationships we need to communicate and principally this is a Mercury activity. When astrologers analyze a relationship they not only look at your natal chart (horoscope) with it 10 planets, miscellaneous other points as well as the 12 signs and 12 houses. Astrologers also look at aspects between the planets, and may cast progressed charts for you. In addition your chart is compared with that of the other to see what type of interaction is taking place. In reading the following descriptions for signs take into consideration that it is not only the Sun that these apply to.
Just to give you an example - You may be a Taurus with an Aquarius Moon, and Venus might be in Aries for you Not only do the qualities of Taurus apply to you, what if your Mars is in Capricorn. Mercury and Venus stay close to the Sun the farthest Venus ventures from the Sun is 47°, meaning that if you were born with an early degree Taurus Sun you could have Venus all the way back in Pisces. If you were born at the end of Taurus and we add that same 47° then you might have Venus in Cancer. Typically Venus is in the same sign or the adjacent sign than the Sun. Mercury is the same. Mars and the Moon can be any sign. The Moon changes signs every 2½ days and Mars takes 2 years to travel through the signs of the zodiac. Bottom line you are more complex than just what the Sun sign would lead you believe and so is your significant other.
The dates for the signs are the average ones used please note that these changes can occur within 12 hours of the date. Astrology divides each sign into 30° segments, at the cusp simply means that we cannot guess which Sun sign you are we have to calculate based on your birth date, time of birth and place of birth. (Something an astrologer would do regardless) In 2001 Sun entered Aries on the 20th of March at 5:31 AM PST, which means that anyone born before that time on the day would actually be a Pisces Sun. At the other end Sun entered Taurus at 3:36 PM PDT on the 19th of April. These vary a little bit from year to year. One on the most changeable is the Sun's ingress (move into) into Pisces There are web sites that allow you to calculate your chart, or you can check out the links page on this site to download free software that does it for you.
The adjacent chart shows all the zodiacal signs
around a chart wheel, which is disected into twelve segments. The
signs are of four colours - red for fire - inspiration - signs which
relate well with each other as they operate from the same mode.
The same applies to all the deep blue signs, which share the element
of water - emotion. The green signs are earth -practicality - signs,
which also share a harmonious relationship with one another. The
turquoise signs are air - intellect - signs, and likewise are well
matched. The next in good matches is between signs that skip one,
i.e. green with blue and red with turquoise. This is what we typically
read in short intros to signs on the web and in the magazines.
Red and blue, i.e. fire and water are not put high on the list of good partners neither is the pairing of turquoise with green, i.e. air with earth. (On a personal note I have been happily married to a fire sign for decades and I am a water sign). There are no all good or all bad things in life - there are just different sets of circumstances - some of us better equipped with handling a so called challenging relationship. This aspect is between these two pairings of elements is a square - 90° - and it is an aspect of friction, action and sometimes aggravation. Remember from chemistry - friction creates sparks, and you may like the excitement of sparks.
There is more..
The other side of the equation is that you may have the best connections astrologically speaking from a sign perspective, but there is no chemistry or there are clashes between other components in your planetary make up. Remember that the Moon in charge of our emotions and needs can be in any sign irrespective of your Sun sign.
Remember, relationships are supposed to change us. If you take a look at a couple who have been together 20-30 years they physically resemble each other - not that they always did. Also if you were to ask them how they have changed in the course of the relationship they would start naming the characteristics that attracted them to their partner and state how they have become more like that and vice a versa. We often look for our partner to fill in those areas that we feel weak in, but ideally we learn from our partners to become stronger in these areas rather than let them act it out for us.
Each sign has its own page - Dating, living with, married to, etc. or have a friend...- Aries - Taurus - Gemini - Cancer - Leo - Virgo - Libra - Scorpio - Sagittarius - Capricorn - Aquarius - Pisces.
