There are three earth signs
in the Zodiac (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn). Earth signs are sensible and
dependable, and approach life from a practical perspective. They have an inherent
need to order and organize their world to protect themselves from unforeseen
circumstances, behaviour and hazards. Sensibilities rule over emotions, earth
signs are certainly in tune with the feel of things and feelings, but these
may be based more on the actual than an emotional response. The sense of touch
is an earthy feeling mechanism.
Earth signs are steady more suited for the marathon, energy is conserved and actions contemplated and considered before taken. Taurus likes to go at a steady pace, and cannot be pushed into action until he/she is good and ready. Virgo likes to take the thinking and planning route before springing into action, and Capricorn takes the slow and well-planned action, time is of no consequence in the grand scheme of things.
Fire initiates endeavours, sparks the inspiration. Earth is the elemental
force that helps give form and moulds to our visionary ideas. Air is the element
we need to think and analyze, to formulate these ideas further. Water is the
element we use to determine how what we have created makes us feel and how
it can feed our needs.
Hollywood has taught us that when something sad happens such as a death or a loss, we need to weep uncontrollably and be incapable of rational action. We don't all feel this way. Each one of the earth signs has a different approach and as individuals we have each of these three earth signs in our make up influencing three or more areas of our lives. (To identify the areas we need to know the particulars of birth such as the date of birth, the time of birth and the place of birth. Next we need to look at planets and the aspects that are formed. We also look at the houses, which represent areas of life, and how these are influenced by the zodiacal sign on the cusp of the house as well how the planet which rules the particular house is positioned.)
Taurus is a fixed, earth sign. All fixed signs share the trait of being somewhat set in their ways, and have a dislike for change; they do like the status quo and have an easier time of adjusting to a comfortable rut. Earth signs are practical, reliable and handle the earthly existence with the most ease. Taurus is a Venus ruled sign, Venus is about love, relationships, feelings, and the enjoyment of earthly pleasures from food to sex; and of course everything else in between. Taurus rules the sense of touch. Taurus likes to build beautiful, practical and useful things. When they have created something they take pride in the fact that others find this useful, whatever this might be - an herbal garden, a workshop, painting, a patchwork quilt or a toy for a child lovingly carved out of wood.
Taurus can be stubborn, determined and fixed on their path. You cannot force Taurus anywhere they don't want to go. Taurus likes material comforts, probably happier with a pot plant than cut flowers, because they can tend to the pot plant and make it grow and thrive. If the date doesn't end up in the theatre and dinner afterwards, that is fine as long as both entertainment and food are involved. This isn't a particularly needy sign, happy with a good book, movie or play and a home-cooked meal. No meal at the time they like one can (and does), however, spell trouble. They may be more than willing to prepare that meal. Taurus rules the throat and voice - many a Taurus has a great, melodious voice and some of our great singers are Taurus individuals. Taurus also appreciates beauty, and all things that appeal to their senses, especially the sense of touch. "I want a lover with a slow hand, a lover with an easy touch " I guess that was written about a Taurus.
The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Within each mode all of the elements are represented. Taurus is fixed earth, known for sustenance, follow through and it role as the provider. Taurus knows how to carry out the actions started by Aries, it does not mind the hard work it involves nor the time it takes. In nature the little buds on crocus and daffodil may come out in April with the Sun in Aries but the blooming starts with Taurus. Leo represents fixed fire, all fixed signs are interested in maintaining status quo, and change is not that welcome. In terms of fire this might be the smoldering log in the fireplace that won't be extinguished. When the Sun is in Cancer our crops mature, but when the Sun gets into Leo it's time to get ready to harvest. Fixed signs cannot be pushed or cajoled to do anything they do not want to do, all of these signs stubborn, not just Taurus the first one in the sequence.
Scorpio is the muddy, dark period when earth becomes dormant. Mother earth's
surface takes a welcome rest in preparation for a fertile spring. Leaves fall
of trees, grass wilts away and in the northern parts the earth prepares for
a blanket of snow. The Sun in Aquarius follows the ambitious Capricorn phase,
the Sun is in its fall in Aquarius, but if you have ever witnessed the brilliant
sunshine in snow country in February he does not appear weak, the hours of
daylight may be short but they are potent. In Finland February is called the
pearl month, and I have always wondered if the glistening Sun on the cold
snow banks is what got the month its name. All of the fixed signs have patience
and staying power, they do not measure time in seconds or minutes but in years
and decades, each one knows how
to wait patiently.
Fixed signs settle into long term relationships with most ease, change and adaptability are not necessarily strong characteristics for them. Taurus is happy with status quo after they have built a solid foundation for the relationship, and have some of those creature comforts to make them feel secure plus of course a healthy bank account and steady income. Taurus wants to taste and savour life, especially when it takes the shape of food. When their own practical needs are met Taurus individuals are very accommodating and accepting. So, looking for someone who is easy to grow old with, your search might be over.
