"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." -- William Shakespeare

Zodiacal Signs

The zodiacal signs are typically listed starting with the spring sign Aries and continuing through to the last sign of winter Pisces. The zodiacal signs are further divided into elemental types - fire, earth, air and water. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. The earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. This division by elemental type is also referred to as the quadruplicities. Within an element there are three zodiacal signs as listed above.

The second division of zodiacal signs is by modality, which is sometimes referred to as triplicities as there are three types of modes: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. Note that these refer to the zodiacal signs not the houses although many modern astrologers use these terms interchangeably. [The houses in a flat chart are ruled by cardinal signs are angular houses, the houses ruled by fixed signs are succeedent (following) and the mutable signs rule cadent (or falling) houses.

The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. The ingress of the Sun into Aries marks the Spring Equinox where the daylight hours equal the nighttime hours. Libra marks the fall or Autumnal Equinox when the daylight hours = the nighttime hours. The Sun's ingress into Cancer and Capricorn marks the Solstice's. The Summer solstice occurs when the Sun enters Cancer and the daylight hours are at their maximum. The Winter Solstice takes place when the Sun enters Capricorn just prior to Christmas and the night hours are at their maximum. Note that each modality, mode or triplicity has a zodiacal sign from each quadruplicity or element.

The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. These don't mark the beginning of a season rather the time when the season is in full bloom. Remember April showers bring May flowers.

The mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. These mark the months or time frames just before the change, the end of the season. When you look at the seasons and the signs it becomes more difficult when you think that the Southern Hemisphere enjoys summer during our winter.

When looking at these brief anecdotal descriptions of the signs bear in mind that we all have these zodiacal signs in our charts. The energy operates at some level not only if this happens to be your Sun sign. The zodiacal signs form one of the basic building blocks in astrology. The other important building block is the planets. Beyond that there are the houses and the aspects. After that we get more specific in our quest to understand ourselves and the world around us. But he basics will always remain the foundation. Most of the zodiacal material was written more than a decade ago. The write-up for some of the signs are long, some are very short. I am including this material as is for now so that students, new to the subject, get a brief introduction to the zodiacal signs.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It marks the beginning of the tropical astrology. As stated above it is the sign of the spring. Because of its order in the sequence it also relates to youth and beginning. Aries is the starter of the zodiac. Mars the planet of action and war rules it. In a flat chart we place Aries on the 1st cusp also known as the Ascendant.

Aries is known as impatient good at initiating action less adept with the follow through. I have built an Aries track into this website - this allows you to select most pages in the Aries version - quick information and no graphics. The Aries pages load up in less than five seconds. The graphic ones can take up to 26 seconds. The Sun is exalted in Aries. Venus in Aries is in its detriment. Planet Mars, the ruler of Aries, is considered red, hot and dry. The symbol for Aries is the horns of a ram.

The astrological sign is associated with pure, raw energy. Aries initiates new things and beginnings. It is about starting things. Mars is action - Aries is acting and doing. Some of the words we associate with Aries are: activity, adrenaline, brain, courage, energy, fire, head, impatience, iron, insomnia, (upper) jaw, kilns, leaders, (upper lip), military, (optic) nerves, physiotherapists, rams, skull, tools (sharp), vertigo and welders.

The flat chart is often used to derive more information on a perspective. An Aries ascendant would typically be impatient, accident-prone (too busy doing and taking action to notice obstacles), energetic, aggressive or assertive, demanding - me first even onto thin ice, might even have a large head, active - running on the spot. When your typical Aries tells you they "are out of here" they are gone in a metaphoric (often literal) flash. Aries is so action-oriented that they do not appear to have the patience to wait for the world or others to catch up. An Aries rising individual would typically have Taurus on the 2nd house cusp, therefore to them possessions and values would be important, and they would be quite stubborn on their own values being the right ones - thus Aries is often very opinionated. The 3rd house cusp for Aries is Gemini - thus they can talk and talk, and are often very active in their environment or neighbourhood. Cancer occupies the 4th house - they are very protective of their home, their private life can be very private. They have inherent sensitivity to their earthly environment. It might be easier for Aries to do rather than to feel. Leo is on the 5th cusps - Aries wants to be a proud and energetic parent in order to play with their children (and their romantic interests). This is where we arrive at the conclusion that Aries is a good parent. Aries - hardworking - why yes - the 6th house has Virgo of organization on the cusp

Your typical Aries person is expansive, impatient and can be annoyingly self-confident. They get things started, the more the better. Juggling just one thing at a time is extremely boring for these self-motivated people. They are direct, honest and open - what you see is what you get. On the flip-side Aries can be tactless, headstrong and ignorant. Some Aries people like to be in complete charge of everything within their territory and beyond, if at all possible.

Aries is typified as act now think later - they tend to do before thinking. Yet this is not to state that Aries is not smart far from it, many an Aries individual is absolutely brilliant. Aries is the energy that qualifies something as action-oriented. They are the ones that initiate action thus they must also come up with the plan or the basic blueprint for it. Aries is energetic, brave, direct (bold) and competitive. Like all fire signs Aries is spontaneous, easily inspired, quick to bore, difficult to contain - how do you tame fire. Aries is the sign that hates to wait - they want things yesterday if not sooner. Aries is the wildfire within the fire family.

Aries is quick-tempered easy to anger and quick to forget. It flared, it burned, it singed and now it is exhausted. All is quickly forgotten - not the sign to brood over it. Act in haste and repent at leisure, first even onto thin ice - Aries can be the dare devil of the zodiac. It is not boring energy it is exciting but it can leave the slower signs "shell-shocked". The Aries statement is I am although I sometimes think it ought to be I do.

Taurus is a Venus ruled sign, it is fixed and practical in its approach. Taurus rules values, money, music and nature. Taurus takes pleasure in nature and is basically fond of the good life. Taurus likes good food, sex, music, movies, books and money - often in that order. A Taurus person needs to be to be near nature, have time to enjoy both the Sunrise and Sunset, and be given the opportunity to own their own little piece of Earth to plant, weed and nurture. An Aries type of person might meditate through martial arts, a Gemini might chant a mantra but give a Taurus a nice garden, a watering can and beautiful flowers, and they will have their meditation. The earthy Venusian energy is very sensuous. To them the sense of touch is important. Whether they are cooking a meal, painting a masterpiece or making love, they like to take their time and don't like to be rushed into anything. To rush them is to rock the boat.

This is a reliable sign. They like the role of the provider, just as much as they like to have the kitchen the centre of their home. If we rotate the flat chart by placing Taurus on the Ascendant Leo is the zodiacal sign, which falls on the 4th house cusp - therefore it is easy to see why the home would be the castle for Taurus. Most Taureans enjoy cooking for friends and family, and always have enough for the unexpected visitor. Whether wealthy or poor Taurus rising and Taurus Moon people in particular, appear to be born to the good life, others will presume so in either case.

Taurus is self-sufficient and wants to develop their own resources and earn a living, and desires to see practical results. Taurus has self-esteem, is easygoing, although somewhat inert and even lazy. The Taurean energy is very strong-willed, determined and resourceful and can be very possessive. Contentment for a Taurus is so simple - piece of land, a small vegetable garden and a comfortable house, with a few antiques and few paintings, maybe the ones you yourself painted. A contented Taurus is very loving and affectionate, loyal and steadfast. While Taurus is often associated with wealth due to its connection to the 2nd house this does not equate that Taurus is wealth in the materialistic sense, only that Taurus like all fixed signs holds onto things thus accumulating possessions. The Taurus key statement after all is - I have. Taurus is an earth sign - and I would relate it to land holding the homestead something personal.

Gemini is Mercury ruled mutable air sign. Air signs are associated with the intellect and the mind. Gemini is often referred to as the reporter of the zodiac, they like to gather information and knowledge. It is associated with youth, most Gemini types look young beyond their years. Staying alive and mentally active is a fountain of youth for Gemini. This is very versatile and lively quick-silver energy. The scope of interests is varied. A jack of all trades is applied to both Mercury ruled signs but Gemini would be the one with the book knowledge about it and Virgo the one who knows how to put the good information to good use. If Gemini is on the 6th house cusp chances are that you have numerous, varied skills. Gemini represents basic learning, the gathering of information, which is not an indication of a lack of intelligence. The never-ending quest for new knowledge and information often means a lack of time for in-depth obsession with one thing. Newspaper and magazine articles are typical of Gemini kind of reporting of information. Reader's Digest typifies the collection of knowledge by Gemini. It is condensed from longer articles, written clearly and precisely and provides it all in a nutshell. Trivial Pursuit is a Gemini game. Gemini is the reporter of the zodiac, ruled by planet Mercury - the messenger. It is accumulation of data for the purpose of reciting that, which was learned, and then moving onto to the next thing.

Gemini energy is naturally very quick and alert, the minute that curiosity is aroused. It is also very inquisitive, the mind is very logical and ability to synthesize the varied components of data is more of Virgo characteristic, but strong Mercurial types also tend to have this knack. You can be one of the more fascinating and witty conversationalists as you have practiced your verbal skills from the time you uttered your first word. A lot of people with this energy at their disposal learned to talk earlier than the average baby. Maybe those two-three months ensured that you would become very articulate and enjoy the taste of words. Gemini energy is very skilled with words.

Gemini like all air signs is sociable, and truly need the company of others. You tend to bore easily when the conversation or action gets in a rut. New things, situations and people excite you, which satisfies your curious nature. Talking whilst sitting on your hands doesn't come easily, expressive hands belong to Gemini. Venus in Gemini people have sensitive hands, almost a turn-on. The most effective form of punishment for children with this flow of energy in their charts is to take away the telephone.

This is Peter Pan energy, as it idealistically retains its desire to remain young at heart. People resonating this mercurial energy attract young friends to their side as they reverberate such youthful vibrations from their own being. Maybe people with this particular kind of energy never fully grow up, but on the other hand they do manage to hold onto those child- like qualities which keep them living life to the fullest - today. The world would be lacking without people like you, who seem to have some access to the fountain of youth.

It is easy to get dizzy around this energy, as you can literally get exhausted watching Gemini children flutter about from one activity to the next and never appear to tire. Gemini adults aren't much slower. These children as well as the adults with Gemini energy have a ready punch line to most comments they hear. I have two children and a husband with pronounced Gemini traits and they keep me in stitches with their jokes and lovable wit. Gemini children also have a never-ending list of questions - their "why" stage can be more challenging.

Gemini energy is seldom true to the characteristics as it is by ever changing and adapting to the environment.

There is a downside with all zodiacal energies, when you deny the free expression of this oscillating energy, you may act and sound very scattered and superficial. The vast quantities of knowledge may come out as inconsequential trivia. The energy flow may be excitable and high-strung rather than animated and vivacious.

Instead of informed discussion based on facts the Gemini person may resort to gossip or even slander. Small talk may be distorted to incessant, prattling drivel. Should the rational thinking faculties be obstructed the end result might well be shallow analyzing without true depth, showing in turn a lack of understanding. As an example consider a schoolmate of mine, who was a straight A student right through school, graduating with honors. Her ability to recall information was uncanny, yet instead of going on with her academic studies she became a saleslady for a department store - why? She had only learned to recite knowledge as if it were poetry, but she had not grasped the actual information.

Analyzing a situation to death without reaching a rational conclusion might be one form of blocked energy for air signs in general. The area in your life where things are constantly changing, where you employ your rationalizing skills, and where you need to prepared for changes is the house with Gemini on the cusp. This being a dual sign there are usually two or more ...(jobs, marriages, children, careers, interests, and hobbies). I guess Gemini would be whirl-wind kind of air.

Moon is the ruling planet of Cancer. Cancer is a water sign but bear in mind that it is also a cardinal sign. While we assume that wherever Cancer energy or planets in Cancer reside we find nurturing energy, this may not always hold water so to speak. Cancer is caring energy and wants to help and lend an empathetic ear or a shoulder to cry on. This is the zodiacal sign of Jupiter's exaltation. This if you consider the Scorpio rising flat chart used during medieval period makes a lot of sense as in that chart Cancer occupied the 9th house.

When it comes to mothering - this might be the sign of the Matriarch; that doesn't sound like the mommy anymore. It sounds more like someone who will run the family, that side of Cancer energy is perhaps one we tend to ignore. Lunar people are mostly tuned in to life through emotions, you do not need to be a Cancer to be a lunar type.

You rely on your instincts, and respond to people in a caring manner. This is such sensitive and affectionate energy. Often there is a natural concern for the well-being of others, astrologically the Moon has the rulership of mothers. Candlelight dinners served at an antique table covered with Grandma's lace table cloth is Cancer kind of romance. To you the past, tradition and family are important. Your roots are something you want to know about. That which has existed and survived the trials of time provides a feeling of security for you.

Strong Cancer or lunar types are inclined to ever-changing moods, like clockwork they change every two hours. If Cancer energy has been deprived of the vital security, we may encounter issues that border on the ridiculous. My Cancer grandmother, who lived through both World Wars, knew what it is like to be forced to do without. So in order to feel she is prepared to meet any calamity she had a huge closet in her small apartment which held a spare set of china, a spare set of saucepans, a spare floor rug, basically a replacement for every item she had in use. She also had some 20 pounds of rice, 40 pounds of coffee, 20 pounds of flour, a formidable pantry so that she never had to do without as long as she lived.

Let's face it, even the most balanced Cancer people have a tendency to hoard things. Everything has so much sentimental value. In a Cancer home we will find all the old love letters rolled into a bundle with pretty ribbon, as well as the flannel nightgown Auntie Fran gave as gift 40 years ago, which has never been worn on account that it didn't have enough lace on it.

This is intuitive energy tuned into unconscious vibrations. Like any other energy, this can be expressed negatively. An insecure Cancer can be smothering, possessive and pampering. They can appear hypersensitive, and be easily hurt. They can be self-pitying, clinging, secretive, selfish and even maudlin.

Cancer is thrifty energy and will save for a rainy day. There are self-imposed limits as to what is enough, and should security demand 10,000 dollars not to feel flat broke (especially if Cancer is on the 8th house cusp), that is what you need to have. I would question the wisdom of having it all inside the mattress.

The house cusp with Cancer on it is where we need to feel emotionally secure, to take comfort in remembering who you are. Cancer water is usually associated with lakes, yet the symbol for Cancer the Crab is a sea creature.

Leo is the home of the Sun and the flat chart ruler of the 5th house of fun, children, creativity and romance. Leo is a fixed fire sign, this particular fire is not wild it is more like the blazing logs in a grand fireplace, which is located in the Leo's castle, however humble it might be. This is the one sign whose owners know that their Sun is in this sign. They might not think much of astrology but do know they are a Leo Sun. Leos like an audience of at least one. A Leo wounded or feeling under the weather, a paper cut will do it, needs TLC. Hugs, kisses and pampering, and Jelly beans and soft drink from the store at 3 in the morning. You want to be the ruler of your roost, and your family needs to beat you beck and call, there to cater to every whim you may have.

When a Leo feels appreciated by those near and dear, the King or Queen will in turn fetch the "admirer" the Moon. Leos are generous and gregarious all they ask is a little ego boost. Someone to tell they are great. Leos are self-assured and have a commanding presence, at least on the surface. They are affectionate, strong-willed, fun-loving and buoyant.

A well-adjusted Leo energy is confident, optimistic and high spirited. A Leo person is easy to spot at a party first observe the mane of hair, watch their cat-like gait, and if you hadn't noticed the Leo is the one everyone is listening to. He is the star of the party. If they can't have the leading role, they are very likely to leave. Leos are very affectionate and romantic. The one I married makes me feel like I am the Goddess of Love, and the Goddess of Wisdom all bound up in one perfectly shaped package. He makes me feel desirable, feminine and intelligent in one gregarious swoop.

I think a balanced Leo is like a big, lovable, huggable pussycat. Oh, just like every other sign, Leo can have a down side. They can be narcissistic, cocksure, conceited and boastful. The can be arrogant and overbearing. They can also be pretty overpowering for a mere mortal. Then there is the patronizing side that can condescend to give dictatorial commands on how to be. They can be the kind to be swayed by flattery. They can be childish and show-offish at the same time.

I think that most Leos are secretly quite insecure, they don't have the inflated egos that they are said to have, and that is why they need praise and admiration more than other zodiacal signs. Leo is a fire sign and has a high level of energy, like the duracell battery add they can keep going, and going... as long as somebody appreciates them. In the house with Leo on the cusp you can truly shine, you can be the King or Queen or choose to secretly crave attention.

Virgo is Mercury ruled, and in the Aries flat chart has rulership over the 6th house. Virgo is supposed to be statistically the most common sign as the Sun sign or rising sign. A Virgo friend pointed out that the reason could be all the Christmas parties nine months earlier. This is a mutable earth sign. Earth signs often get a boring rap and mutable signs sometimes also referred to as changeable signs are found too inconstant, able to recreate themselves. Interestingly many actors have strong Virgo placements and many even have Sun in Virgo. These qualities associated with change and adaptability are an integral part of playing a role. Who can do it better than a chameleon with the innate knowledge of how to become that character?

Virgo energy is earthy, practical as well as analytical. It takes Virgo energy to categorize, to put knowledge in action, to learn new skills, and to apply those skills to tasks at hand. This zodiacal sign rules service, work and health. Virgo placements make the person adaptable and hardworking. Virgo can master handling boring nit-picking matters others want to avoid. Often people with Virgo placements are very neat and organized, but as with any energy it can also go to the other extreme, where we find Pisces energy, and be the absolute messiest. But even so there is bound to be one area of your life in which you are neat and organized. It doesn't mean that everything in your life is neatly organized and boxed. You're apt to notice things others never even saw. You are an inquisitive person, but because you are also very sensitive you won't ever probe. I have two children with Virgo rising and their 'why'-stage drove me insane. The remaining two weren't half as bad. A typical Virgo was Felix Unger of the "Odd Couple

Virgo qualities are diligence, efficiency and modesty. Virgo approaches things in an orderly and methodical manner wanting to be helpful, obliging and dependable, giving is more valuable than receiving. This sign is bound to make a person health-conscious, even in the face of hardship. What you may also express, unwittingly, from time to time is timidness, servitude, and submission. You may worry too much, be a workaholic and overly critical of others and self.

I saw a quote somewhere 'don't agonize - organize' what a perfect sentiment to deal with your Virgo area of life. This website out there in Jupiter land (due to its vastness) wouldn't have materialized if I wasn't organized in 9th house matters. Here is a link to an essay I wrote about the 6th house. The Virgo symbol of the woman holding a sheaf of wheat would quite readily define the type of earth - fertile fields for growing crops.

Libra is a cardinal, air sign ruled by Venus. In the flat chart Libra is on the cusp of our relationship house, the 7th i.e. the setting sign or descendant. Two signs are Venus ruled - Taurus and Libra. Venus is often likened to a mirror, and in that mirror we see our reflection through others and that represents the Libran side of Venus relationships. Libra is the exaltation sign of Saturn. The 7th house represents our spouse, other people in our lives, friends and enemies, lawyers and our second child.

We have our feelings, but without other people we wouldn't be able to have a sounding board for them. In Libra we balance our feelings, and when you consider the scales as a symbol for Libra it is easy to see why this sign rules that function.

With a Libra Sun you do take others into consideration, Libra is relationship-oriented. Libras are called indecisive. What appears indecision stems from always seeing issues from the other person's perspective as well. Once the two sides have been addressed the Libra must in all fairness weigh the two sides against each other - and sometimes the issues come out even... What are you supposed to do - decide. Libra is an air sign, and air signs analyze things till they come to a decision that is just - the word just is a Libra word. As they can see so many components of the issue it takes a long time to reach a conclusive judgement, and to the world they appear lazy and indecisive.

A Libra friend was at a dinner party - Libras invented this pastime - and the hostess offered her two shish-kebabs and said: "Here, pick two!" Unwittingly the hostess has solved this Libra's nightmare - having to choose between two things of equal value. That is really the indecisiveness and its dilemma - Libra is faced with always having to pick out of two items of equal value.

A lot of Libras have a weight problem and even that stems from either relationships or from choosing between two of equal value. Libra is a relationship sign as is Pisces the solstice point of Libra. These two signs need other people the most and are always involved in relationships. Libra "hates" arguments and conflicts - I think the symbol for peace was created by Libra. Libra will avoid "hostile" situations at any cost, they want to get along with everyone. Well, as reality would have it, these situations come up. So then if the Libra person might (another Libra word) take these confused feelings to food [as Venus does rule food]. She or he ends up with her/his mind busy sorting out the relationship dilemma, getting a snack and there is no way she/he is going to make a decision what to have but will have both!

A well-adjusted Libra personality is sociable, sharing, co-operating, mediating, pleasing, and tactful. Libra people are peace-loving, poised, elegant, refined, artistic, and have good taste. They are beauty-conscious, evaluating, objective, and always strive for balance. They do they utmost to be fair and just.

Each sign has two sides, the flip-side of Libra presents a different picture. A Libra person unable to find balance within themselves can become too centered on other people, dependent on their views and decision, and flirtatious. Because of personal maladjustment a Libra can be overly compromising, placating, compliant, phony, dishonest, and flattering instead of complementary. Values are important for an intellectual sign and when those values are unclear to the person with Libra emphasis in their chart, those values may appear very superficial and wishy-washy. An unhappy Libra will come across frivolous, vain, indecisive, contradictory, oscillating, unable to accept reality and become extremist.

Libra can be very contradictory - they will poke at the beehive to see the reaction. Libra is balance and any planet in Libra or the house with the Libra cusp is where you seek balance in this life. Mercury in Libra individuals for example make excellent mediators - they have the perfect word for everything - one without good or bad built in but neutral.

Librans appreciate the harmonious and beautiful things in life. They are fond of art, there is an innate beauty with a Libra person, and they don't want to rock the boat, because life is too short to waste time on arguments. Librans would rather leave this life having noticed everything of value, the nature, the art, the exquisite clothes, beautiful manors, haunting music, and so on.

Libra can be a very idealistic person, presuming that if status quo can be maintained everything will be rosy. Where do you seek balance and harmony - look at the house with Libra on the cusp.

Scorpio flowing through the outlets provided by the planets under the rulership of Pluto or the house in the chart ruled by Pluto describes energy, which is never shallow and superficial. I am addressing this part from the modern perspective, but the reader should keep in mind that, traditionally Mars rules Scorpio. The Scorpionic Mars can be a veritable powerhouse of intimidation. A young person with this energy isn't at ease with casual, light-hearted conversation or cocktail parties. Because of it he/she will prefer to stand back and observe the behavior of others. With age he/she will lighten up, and actually learn the art of chit-chat. By then he/she'll have mastered considerable skills in regard to human behavior. I had a nightie, which had "Scorpios live life to the fullest once they wake up". Some wake up sooner than others, but what it refers to is when the Scorpio joins the crowd rather than just stands back and scrutinizes the environment. The maturing Scorpio can be a veritable powerhouse on the facts of life, and often quite intimidating.

What in our being could be deeper than the soul, Pluto is given control of the soul and its evolution. Pluto is normally the outermost planet known to man, but once every 500 years Neptune intercepts the elliptical orbit of this mysterious planet, which has a moon called Charon orbiting it. This small powerful planet moved closer to us starting in 1979, in 1989 it reached the closest point, and is currently moving to claiming its rightful place by 1999. Whilst Neptune remains the outermost planet for twenty years, it has a prime view of the dark side of Pluto.

The dark side is usually credited to Scorpio. In mythology Hades and Moira, the god and goddess of the underworld claim their hold on Pluto. Pluto rules sexuality, death and birth, both symbolically as well as literally, as reproduction caused the world to experience death in the first place. Death is an issue a Scorpio person faces in their lifetime, deeply and intensely as the emotional feeling quality of Scorpio/8th house/Pluto demands. Old has to die to make way for the new. An old wives' tale says that when a Scorpio is born a relative dies within a year of that birth. Scorpio also rules other people's values and money, reincarnation, transformation, inheritance, and the reproductive organs. The animal symbols for Scorpio are gray lizard, snake, scorpion, eagle, dragon and phoenix. So people under the influence of Scorpio have those influences present in their make-up, and which one they decide to manifest is up to them. It is energy, which seems to be both revered and abhorred.

So what are the qualities of Scorpio energy. Let's look at the positive side first. A Scorpio can be utterly trustworthy and the most loyal friend you can hope to have. Scorpios not only know how to keep secrets they seem to draw them. Why do people tell their secrets to a Scorpio - because they know they are safe. Why then do these people who shared their secrets feel awkward in the presence of the person with Scorpio flowing through the luminaries, personal planets, or the Ascendant? I believe, its partially because they can't figure out for themselves, why they sought that person out to tell their darkest secret to in the first place. And secondly there is doubt that maybe this Scorpio is like Alexis Carrington of Dynasty, who will use the information to further her own ends.

Do you recall a deep conversation, the kind that begin - please, I want to you to promise, not to tell ...- with a Scorpio. Then finally you came to the end of your story and the Scorpio just sat there still and silent. And you felt like babbling just to break the silence... even another Scorpio gets an uneasy feeling with this treatment. Apart learning to face death square in the face, and know no fear, there is another task for Scorpios to learn, when not to sit in silence.

A Scorpio yields power at all levels - the sneaky just as well as the noble. The trick for a Scorpio is not to manipulate. Scorpio has charisma, maybe its those eyes! Those compelling eyes, Scorpio rising is often the one with the bushy eyebrows. Have you noticed how they appear to see through metal doors let alone through mere skin? Some appear to strip you of clothes, the sign does rule sex - but even worse the most evolved Scorpio appears to strip you down to your very soul. Maybe that is why so many Scorpios wear sunglasses even in the winter, they are aware of the discomfort others feel when their eyes penetrate through layers of matter.

Scorpio colors are listed from Maroon to black. As one myself with lots of Scorpio friends, say the color is all shades of old rose - the shades mellow as the Scorpio mellows. (I hear non-believers laughing at this statement - a mellow Scorpio must be an oxymoron). One dressed in pretty old rose may no longer sting - and don't push the one in maroon into a corner and she won't attack either. Scorpios only attack when they feel their security is threatened. Instead of attack you may also encounter a glazier-like wall, and you know you have ceased to exist for the Scorpio. Scorpios like other water signs seem to be wise beyond their years, always ready to counsel another soul in emotional need. Scorpios are very compassionate, but you won't be told that - maybe that is the secret Scorpios hold.

A sign always has its opposite, which it reflects as well as its own positive and negative expression. To oversimplify let's look at some key words. A positive flow of the energy would be intense, passionate, and responsible. The people with this force flowing through them are strong, courageous, strong-willed, and magnetic. They have charisma as well as sex-appeal. Very often these people are unaware of the impact they have. When a Scorpio woman walks into a room people notice her, the women get ready to protect their men and the men take note. The same happens with a Scorpio man, except that the men in the room hold onto their women a little tighter. This is just as well, because Scorpios hate being ignored. You are welcome to hate them, it's preferable to feeling insignificant. These enigmatic people are also truthful, determined, and very resourceful. Mysterious and self-protective, they need privacy even if it is a small treasure box, the contents of which none is allowed to see.

Any energy can also be used negatively. A Scorpio can be violent and destructive. When they feel insecure they become possessive and jealous. They can also be too intense. When they are not in tune with this energy flow they can be very repressed and dominating. Ignore them and you'll really find what secretive can mean. "Don't get mad get even", we've all heard that. Coupled with the obsessive concentration to any task, the ways to do just that get scary. These people are capable of lying low for years and decades to bide their time till the perfect opportunity comes along, and they can have their revenge.

Secrets are not safe from a wounded Scorpio - their investigative skills are unsurpassed, if there is dirt to be found they'll find it. To them the end justifies the means. Crimes of passion are also very Scorpionic in nature, and Scorpios can literally get away with murder here.

The element of Scorpio is in each chart, as is Pluto and the eight house. The house with Scorpio on the cusp describes an intense, determined attitude toward the issues of that house. Pluto ruling your third house for example could make you a very powerful and charismatic speaker commanding the attention of your audience, on the same token it could describe a very secretive, vengeful person who might be the stirrer of trouble in the neighborhood. When Pluto is in an aspect to a personal planet it becomes a personal planet rather than remaining the generational outer planet. Maybe you have a sister born in August who has Pluto conjunct her Sun, who doesn't act like any of the older or younger Leos you know. She is just too intense to be a social butterfly out to have a good time, for her Pluto would be a very personal planet.

Through the death experiences a Scorpio faces in his/her life he/she learns not to fear death. They learn that death is only transformation from one state of being to another.

Sagittarius describes jovial, fun energy. This is a mutable, fire sign the fire that burns within. Jupiter rules Sagittarius. With this energy you want others to like you, and you enjoy making others laugh at what you say or do. Because this energy is so filled with pure joy of living you don't often pay too close attention to your speech but tend to say the first thing that comes to mind. You have one thing in mind, which is very clear and precise to you, but it just tends to loose something in the articulation. The world calls this the "foot-in-the-mouth disease". If what you said came out the way you meant it to, and made the recipient gasp or blush, it could have been that they were not ready for the truth.

Often the reason for saying these things is that you don't lie to yourself, and you have no intention of pretending for others either. If you don't agree with someone, you'll say so and if you think someone is doing great at their job or looking better than ever you'll say that, too. However, saying that you look lousy, whether it is true or not, is pushing it. You hate pretence. Pretending just a tad won't hurt you, and in doing so you might find others won't be so easily offended. I am what I am is your motto, and you allow the same freedom to others.

You can be quite blunt and tactless at times, but because of your joviality you are mostly forgiven. With this energy you can easily get yourself into argument. Sagittarius rules the higher mind, the Stars, Dreams, as well as courts of law. You have a healthy respect for what is right, and you want justice. If another person is not speaking justly about something you will correct him by handing down your version of truth. Whether it is the truth or not is not as insignificant as the fact that just by saying what was on your mind you may have stirred up something that will develop into a full-blown verbal battle.

You find it embarrassing to involve others in your troubles, so you'll put on a happy face for them even if you are crying inside. You feel that others need not have to deal with your problems. You also have a tendency to laugh or joke away painful things in your life.

You love to travel be it in reality or out of your armchair, you feel stagnated if things remain the same or if you have to stay in the same spot for too long. You love to leap into new situations, see new things, and explore. You are always interested in foreign countries, as well as philosophy. You feel that if you don't get to expand your world by one means or another you'll cease to grow, and if you cease to grow you'll cease to exist.

You can be very purposeful, single-minded, goal-directed and aspiring. You have a lot of energy to invest in searching for truth. You are very idealistic yet discerning and open-minded in your quest for higher learning. You have high ethics and principles, and in your search to improve yourself you are highly likely to become well-read. Once you have gained your information it becomes time to part with it. Jupiter the planet, which rules over Sagittarius is also a teacher, often a spiritual one. Your quest for knowledge has made you wise, profound as well as inspired.

This energy is the kind that needs room to be free. You are enthusiastic, optimistic and quite carefree. You like sports and the outdoors. Although you can be a generous, buoyant and high-spirited teacher, you are also like Peter Pan. Childlike in your desire to live life to the fullest and never really grow up.

Expressed to its highest potential the above describes the so endearing positive qualities of Sagittarian energy. This energy can also expressed very negatively, and we'll look at the flip side of the coin in the following. But first a simple observation, most of us cannot express the pure positive side of any energy because we are only human. If we could be a 100% positive there would be no need for us to gather any further earthly experience - and we'd have wings.

When the pure flow of the energy is blocked at any level you may be more impractical and unrealistic than you like to admit even to yourself. Instead of walking with both feet firmly on the ground while your head is reaching for the stars, your feet may barely touch the ground and your head is in the clouds.

You may be quite impatient, too opinionated and overly abstract in your self-expression, so that others cannot grasp the meaning behind your words. You may let yourself be blind to immediate realities. You may pretend to be something you're not, and end up hating yourself for it. Self-delusion is a pain in the butt for Sagittarian energy.

Instead of taking the time to find the truth, and then passing the information on you may be didactic and long winded in the process of imposing your truth on others. If you are not expressing your Sagittarian energy positively you may become moralistic and dogmatic instead of being ethical and principled.

Saying what is true because it is constructive rather that because you want to sound knowledgeable often comes out blunt and makes you sound intolerant. Pretending to be a friend could be one flaw in negatively expressed energy.

If you feel insecure about yourself you may take a defensive pose of being tactlessly outspoken. Exaggerating and boasting might be another flaw. In your haste you might careless and sloppy. Peter Pan didn't want to grow up, but he was a story book character in real life we have to grow up, but we don't need to loose our child-like approach to things. If you prefer to be the story book version you may remain irresponsible and unreliable. The world does impose its rules and laws on all of us, and with maturity we learn to accept them and be part of a functioning society, Sagittarian kind of immaturity can result in intolerance of restrictions.

Saturn rules Capricorn. Saturn represents restriction and boundaries. Capricorn people tend to build a wall for protection against the world. Capricorn is very reserved, and not very easy to decipher. Saturn stands for structure, old age, teacher and limits. With a prominent Saturn/Capricorn in your chart you learn from bitter experiences to be a responsible person, and once you have it down pat, you have become a teacher and you have the wisdom of your own experiences to draw from.

You appreciate the wisdom of older people - you take the time to listen and have patience to listen through the repetition, because you feel they have a lot to offer. Saturn rules the businessman as well as the father. Saturn rules the cycle of life.

If you are born under the sign of Capricorn you were born old and responsible. Saturn ruled individuals are conservative, serious, practical and keep tight control on their expressions. They are diligent and hardworking. Their approach is cautious and they like to plan ahead, and because they are so responsible they generally have a good sense of timing. Capricorns are law-abiding and reliable citizens - the pillars of society. A prominent position in life is important to them. Capricorn rules ambition and executive capabilities a well as enterprise.

The above are all positive qualities, and with Capricorn wisdom comes with age, it is a learning process and when the Capricorn person learns it, there is absolutely no going back. That is when Capricorn becomes the pillar of strength and the master of knowledge learned through experience. Although these people are born old they seem to get younger as the years roll by, and also they learn to take themselves less seriously.

In order for us to learn to express the positive qualities in our make-up we need to acknowledge the not-so-pleasant side of ourselves. With this sign pessimism, resignation and cynicism can rule supreme. Capricorn can be status-seeking, manipulative and exploiting with no concern for others. They can be gloomy, narrow-minded and patronizing. Capricorn isn't the snappiest dresser of the zodiac, as they don't want to draw attention to themselves. They aren't the ones to buy a new wardrobe each season, once everyone ten years seems much more like it - and it saves money too.

Get-rich-quick-schemes aren't generally speaking for Capricorns, they prefer to take the slowly but surely route. Buying a lottery ticket at $4 a pop every week, is a waste of money, because if you save the money you'll have $208 in a year, and that could be in the bank earning interest. A well-rounded Capricorn uses their hard earned money wisely. Capricorn is the epitome of the ant in the children's story, grasshoppers are too frivolous. Or like the Irish song I'll take the low road, you'll take the high road and I'll be there before you. No risks, just plain hard work, and Capricorns get where they are going. What are of life do you take seriously? Where do you readily assume responsibility?

Uranus rules the zodiacal sign of Aquarius. Let's remember here that some of Saturnian stuff above does also apply to Aquarius. Saturn is the traditional ruler of Aquarius. Uranus rules over astrology, brilliant minds, and divorce. There's more to it than that but let's just start with it. People like Einstein, the Mad Scientist and Dr. Hawking, who is so close to proving how life began come under this sign, symbolically.

At the store I saw a girl who was wearing a pair of jeans that were full of
holes and had no behind. Under the jeans she had a pair of biking tights, on her head a boy George hat, and on her feet ridiculous soldier's boots. The rebellion, eccentricity and uniqueness of her outfit was pure Uranus. My son, her classmate, coined her weird. So we can quite safely say that the style of dress is unique, often the trend-setters for individualism, a good example of an Aquarian dresser is Madonna, yet she is a Leo the polar opposite. Often times there are strong connections between polar opposites with all of the six pairings. White would not exist without black, good without evil. The Sun is in its detriment in Aquarius - the Sun is what bestows vitality and energy to us, the Sun in the middle of Winter is in Aquarius and makes limited appearances in the Northern Hemisphere, thus it is perceived weak. In the Southern hemisphere the Aquarius Sun is glaringly hot.

Aquarius is a fixed air sign, and its approach to life is intellectual. Mind rules in an attached manner, they observe from the safety of having no emotional attachment to things. Individuals with prominent Aquarian placements in the chart tend to be aloof, caring rather for humanity than just one individual. Detachment from emotion and ego is one key lesson Aquarius has.

Like all fixed sign Aquarius is determined and resolute. One lovely beautiful quality they have is tolerance. They are friendly and they don't judge, but a true Aquarian accepts others as they are, of course they'd like others to return the favour. They seek the truth in anything, and have an intense dislike for lies. They are open-minded and idealistic. An Aquarius wants his/her freedom without strings attached, and may very well be a bit eccentric. Aquarius is unpredictable, original, non-conformist and has a keen mind. The line between brilliance and craziness is very thin, and Aquarius can be both. Uranus rules the absurd, freedom, radio waves, electronics, everything sudden, space shuttles, airplanes, microwaves. People with a planetary emphasis in this eccentric and freedom-loving sign don't really like to be emotionally tied down and take exception if someone does prevent them from expressing this side. Where is it you need to express your uniqueness, individuality. Where do you want to use your intuitive, inventive and abstract mental capacities? It this where you want to contribute meaningfully to society?

Aquarian children may have been encouraged you to develop self-sufficiency, and independence, and parents, especially father, may have been somewhat unpredictable or erratic in their relations to you.

Everything has a positive and negative quality, one cannot exist without the other. So when the Aquarian energy is out of balance, the Aquarian personality can appear abstract, impersonal, uninvolved and distant. They can make an issue about other people's intolerance. The can be overly rebellious, eccentric and self-willed. Being fixed in their ways they can also be stubborn, inflexible and uncommitted, as well as impractical. So where does your rebellion, the desire to not only stretch boundaries but to break them reside - check the house cusp with Aquarius on it. Perhaps take a good look at where Uranus lives - is that where you excel at the weird, bizarre or where you won't conform.

I have a dear friend with Uranus in her 12th house. She puts a big sign on her front door on her house cleaning days with "MEDITATING - DO NOT DISTURB". She then turns new age type music on high volume, strips down to her birthday suit and cleans house. Or she's pulling my leg with her story. But one way or another she does get her privacy.

The Modern ruler of Pisces is the god of sea, Neptune. Pisces is usually given the ocean, the biggest water where the shores aren't always in sight. The traditional ruler of Pisces, Jupiter might have wanted Pisces to have the biggest. Venus is exalted in Pisces (in the Scorpio wheel Libra was on the 12th cusp). Mutable water is the quality of Pisces. The element of water is very emotional, passionate and moody. Water people rely strongly on how they feel. Pisces energy is extremely sensitive, empathetic and tears flow readily. This is perhaps the most secretive energy, only because of the fear of being hurt. These people are very romantic in an ethereal kind of way. Daydreaming rather than actual living those romantic fantasies is more the Piscean way. These people don't appear to be quite here on earth. They tend to see good in everyone even when facts seem to indicate otherwise. These are the people who'll take care of others regardless of the cost. They more than most need to be needed.

Pisces people are very devoted to others, their wants and wishes come first. They are constantly involved in relationships because if they cannot care for another they don't feel that they exist

Neptune the ruler of Pisces is both illusive and illuminating. Most attempts at understanding this energy are equally illusive. Perhaps because this is esoterically presumed to represent the last incarnation. Out of touch with reality is the bottom line for Pisces energy. People with this energy prominently placed create their own reality, what that might be depends on the person.

Pisces is relationship energy - they need people, yet they are quite removed from people. There is an innate knowledge of the way others feel. It is as if you naturally sense when others hurt, are happy, and so on. We all have Pisces energy in our make up as well, it can waft between the Jupiter waves and Neptune waves. Pisces energy comes in a lot of variety. Somehow it appears to be where we are pre-sensitized, acutely aware of the source of joy, pain and life in general. Pisces is the sign on the cusp of the 12th house in a flat wheel chart, in the 12th house we have fear and faith, isolation, bliss, that is where we are alone with our subconscious, it is also the house where we shift from this reality into the next. The illusion of Maya, the veil of Neptune - the connection to beyond the veil are all residents here in the 12th house, which is the natural home of Pisces.

Interestingly when you turn the flat chart wheel to where Pisces is on the cusp, you note that Virgo is on the 7th and that would imply that Pisces wants to form partnerships with practical organized individuals. The 8th house is Libra, which might indicate the need for harmony and beauty in those most intimate of relationships. The Pisces phrase of course is I believe.
